Daily Activity Report
Week 1: May 23 – 27, 2011
Tuesday
Tuesday I got acquainted with John and several other people in the IT department. John showed me around different areas that I will be working, and began to brief me on the job and some of my duties. John got me enrolled in Extron’s online training course for the media link controllers that we will be installing to the network. Opened up and got familiar with one of the new media link controllers. Helped set up a webinar in the boardroom of Edwards hall. Troubleshot and repaired issues with a media controller in the welding classroom.
Wednesday
Reconfigured the stage in the main hall in Edwards hall and set up sound equipment for the Chancellor of Virginia’s award ceremony. Met Jose Melendez who is my supervisors boss and received a tour and rundown of the TV studio at the college. Began a spreadsheet that will detail all of the information needed when installing the media link controllers, including room numbers, mac addresses, and IP address. Had to dig through the file system on a laptop to find temp files for a recorded phone conference and piece them all together. Hung a projector screen in the welding classroom.
Thursday – May 26, 2011
We did a sound check for John Viars, who was the performer at the Chancellors award ceremony. Our main duty today was to monitor and adjust sound for the ceremony. During that time me and John had to maintain communication between rooms in order to make adjustments to for each presenter and when John Viars changed instruments. Trouble shot some equipment issues in a classroom and determined that a replacement was necessary. Class was on break so equipment swap will be completed on another day. Began the Extrononline training course.
