Dr. Erick M. Hueck and Dr. Gary A. Yoham Matching Grant in
Secondary Science Education
The purpose of this grant is to contribute towards sending one (1) Miami-Dade County Public High School Teacher to one of three major Science Educators’ Conferences:
§ American Educational Research Association (AERA)
§ National Association for Research in Science Teaching (NARST)
§ National Science Teachers Association (NSTA)
The grant funds donated annually by Dr. Erick M. Hueck and Dr. Gary A. Yoham to the Dade County Science Teachers’ Association (DCSTA) will be matched by DCSTA. The awarded funds, totaling $1,200.00, will be used to contribute toward the recipient/awardee’s expenses for airfare, lodging, meals, and membership dues of the host organization.
The following terms, conditions, and restrictions apply to all applicants:
§ All fulltime high school science teachers are eligible providing they:
- are a current member of DCSTA (2010-2011)
- have a minimum of three years teaching experience
§ Recipient/Awardee’s Principal must be willing to provide professional leave for conference attendance and Interim Educator during recipient/awardee’s absence.
§ Recipient/Awardee may apply only once every five years.
§ Recipient/Awardee’s completed applications must be received by Friday, October 15, 2010.
The following terms, conditions, and restrictions apply to the recipient/awardee:
§ Recipient/Awardee will be responsible for making all of the arrangements to attend, including, but not limited to: transportation, lodging, meals, and conference registration.
§ Recipient/Awardee will conduct a follow-up presentation at their school sharing what he/she learned at the conference, securing and addressing a letter from school Principal to DCSTA as verification:
- presentation must be a minimum of thirty (30) to forty (40) minutes
- presentation may be PowerPoint or Hands-On Inquiry-Based
§ Recipient/Awardee will conduct same or similar presentation at the Annual DCSTA/DCCTM Mathematics/Science Mini-Conference.
Funds will be awarded as follows:
§ DCSTA shall dispense half of the grant funds one month prior to conference with copy of registration provided to DCSTA.
§ DCSTA shall dispense the remaining half of the grant funds after the conference pending:
- all receipts are reviewed by the Grant Committee
- verification of school site presentation
Teacher applications will be evaluated and selected by a committee of science educators.
