Guidelines for Reporting Insurance Incidents

Cycling Ireland members, i.e., both individuals and clubs, are covered under Cycling Ireland’s insurance policies. There are two main policies (details of these policies can be found at

  • A personal injury policy,and;
  • A public liability policy.

It is important that incidents likely to result in a claim, either by a Cycling Ireland member or against a Cycling Ireland member, are reported as soon as possible and particularly where damage has been caused to a third party (i.e., non-Cycling Ireland member). If unsure it is always best to report an incident.

  1. Reporting Incidents
  • Complete the Insurance Incident Form as much as possible and email to us through our contact us pageand choose the appropriate topic.
  • Provide all relevant details, include photographs, witness reports or details of witnesses, details of weather and road conditions etc. if possible;
  • It is not necessary that an accident victim reports the incident themselves, in some cases where injuries are severe the accident victim may not be in a position to complete the claim form. In such cases it is perfectly acceptable that, say, the promoting club concerned complete the incident form.
  1. Claim Process
  • Cycling Ireland will pass the claim to its insurance brokers, O’Driscoll O’Neil -
  • O’Driscoll O’Neil will liaise directly with the relevant member where there is a claim for medical expenses and the like.
  • In the event of a serious injury a liability assessor will be appointed. It is important that all details regarding witnesses, photographs, risk management details are retained by the race/event organiser.
