Overview

I am a graduate in Italian and French and have spent more than 25 years working as a technical translator from Italian into English following five years living and working in Turin, Italy. I have extensive experience in a range of industries.

I translate only from Italian to English and have experience in both Italian and English blue chip companies.

I calculate that I have translated 8 million words from Italian into English during my career.

I have an extensive reference library, use the internet (via broadband) to research specific topics and maintain up-to-date versions of all relevant software.

1982-2007

Self-employed in the U.K

I returned to the U.K. in 1982 for family reasons and since then I have worked on a self-employed basis for many of the major translating agencies. My main areas of specialisation include: law, finance, general business, automotive, electrical, electronic and mechanical engineering, telecommunications and I.T.

1978-1982

Employer: Paolo Pentenero S.n.c., Torino, Italy

I was recruited by Paolo Pentenero S.n.c as office manager and lead translator. Our major clients consisted of all the FIAT divisions (cars, trucks, agricultural machinery, tractors etc), Alfa Romeo and numerous ancillary companies operating in the automotive engineering field.

1976-1978

Employer: CSELT (Centro Studi per l'Elettronica e Le Telecomunicazioni) Torino Italy

I worked at the telecommunications research centre as a linguistic advisor, collaborating closely with research engineers on the preparation of research papers and publications. I was the principal reviser of a published text on Optical Fibre Communications.

During this period I also took and passed the preliminary exams of the A.C.C.A. (Association of Certified Accountants).

1974-1976

Employer: Post Office Telecommunications

I was recruited as a graduate trainee to work in the international statistics group of the Management Services Department. Whilst working within this group I also acted as an interpreter/translator for specific project work in France and Italy.
