30-40% fatality due refractory pulmonary edema due to an Indian red ( Mesobuthus tamulus) scorpion stingwas reported from western Maharashtra ( lancet 1978). He studied details clinical signs and symptoms(Lancet 1982). He tried varies regimen includingdecongestivetreatmentbut found that alpha-1 blocker Prazosin a physiological and pharmacological antidote to scorpion venom action ( lancet 1986). Since the advent of parzosin the fatality is reduced to <1%. ( British heart journal ( 1998). Heand his team trained >30000 peripheral doctors regarding how to treatsevere scorpion sting casesat restricted resources. Scorpion antivenin is available from Haffkine institute the comparison between antivenin Vs Prazosin, fatality with scorpion antivenin treated group is high as compared to prazosin. Hence Prazosin is called poor man antivenin ( Journal of association of physician India 2007). Recently scorpion venom could be useful to reverse the Brugada syndromepublished in the lancet 10thNov 2007. prazosin was widely use for scorpion sting in Saudi Arabia(AR –AlasmariSaudi MedicalJournal 2008), Turkey(Bosnak M 2008 wilderness Environ Med in press)He was invited for scorpion envenoming meeting at Ciba foundation London 1994.

Snake bite- Russell viperEchis carinatusviper ( carpet viper), krait and cobra bite cases are common in farmers working at farm. Dose of snake antivenin ( lancet ;357:1132-33), clinical signs and symptoms(Transaction of Royal society tropical medicine and hygiene;Journal of wilderness medicine2003 ). krait is nocturnal it bites to the person slept of floor bedits fangs are short and sharp but is venom is 10 times more potent than cobra venom. Krait bite victim has no local sign at the site of biteaccompanied with pain in abdomen followed by neuroparalysisSnakebite, cocktailsand a girls with a stomach ache Lancet 2008 ;371:696

Dental fluorosiswas recognized in small village the source of fluorosis was bore well water. The fluoride content of bore well water was >3. 5PPM. Villagers were provided alternative drinking water hence the skeletal and other toxicity of fluorosis was prevented ( tropical doctor).

Villagers are aware and afraid of chest pain hence report earlier to the hospital andhence mostcases received thrombolysisin golden hours ( within 2 hours of chest pain)majority of them showed realizationof affected vessels. Common risk factors were bidi smoking, tobacco chewing, masheri ( paste of half burned tobacco)application to the gum in the morning ( tropical doctor).Simple bamboo cot with scrupulous use of mosquito net during night prevent krait bitescorpion stingmosquito born diseases likemalaria, filarial dengue feverencephalitis( lancet ).

He was invited national and internal medical conferencesawardeda Dr. Mehta andPatel award for his best paperpublished in JAPI 2007)- he was honoured by manycivil pubic awards.

Mortality due scorpion sting is reduced to <1% which was >45% all over Maharashtra.

He was Invited as Guest speaker for discussion meeting on scorpion envenoming held atLondon in 1993.

His research of treatment of severe scorpion sting with the help of Prazosin. The death rate dueseverescorpion sting is reduced to <1%which was >60% beforehis research. He managed the cases without use of scorpion antivenom which is expensive, needs laboratory, animals andnot free from severe anaphylaxis reactions. Dr. Bawaskars contribution helped the nature and did saved packs ofrupees of Govt funds neededfor preparation of scorpion antivenom. His research is help to notonlyIndia but alsoall over tropical and subtropical countries like Israel, Trinidad, BrazilSaudi Arabia, Turkeyet
