ENRIQUE BARBERO

Professor Enrique Barbero has been an aeronautical engineer for the Polytechnic University of Madrid since 1993 and has held a doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Carlos III University of Madrid since 1999.

Since October 1995, he has worked in the Department of Continuum Mechanics and Structural Analysis of the Carlos III University of Madrid, becoming associate professor in October 2005. He teaches first- and second-level courses in Mechanical Engineering and courses at the master’s level (for a Master’s degree in Advanced Structural Mechanics and Master’s degree in the Science and Engineering of Materials).

Dr. Barbero collaborates as a researcher with the Laboratory of Mechanical Tests (LabMec) belonging to the University of Carlos III of Madrid, part of the network of laboratories within the region of Madrid (RedLab) ever since its inception, first as Quality Supervisor (until July 2003) and afterwards (November 2007) as Laboratory Director.

He has been an consultant for the National Agency of Evaluation and Prospective since 2004 in the Area of Civil Engineering and Architecture, and since 2005 in the Area of Mechanical, Naval and Aeronautic Engineering. He also collaborates with the journal Composite Science and Technology.

His research lines focus on the analysis and modelling of the response to dynamic loads and the impact of light structures manufactured with advanced materials and also on the damage tolerance of laminate and sandwich structures. Currently, he directs a research group in the Mechanics of Advanced Materials, recognized in the catalogue of groups of the Carlos III University of Madrid. Some of the research was made in co-operation with foreign research centres, such as the Prins Mauritz Laboratory, belonging to the Nederlandse Organisatie TNO (Dutch Organization for Applied Scientific Research), the University of Coimbra (Portugal) or the West Virginia University (USA).

He has directed three doctoral theses and several research projects financed by the Interministerial Commission of Science and Technology as well as by the regional government of Madrid, and he has directed projects financed by a number of private companies as well as research centres. He has participated as a researcher in nine research projects financed by the Interministerial Commission of Science and Technology as well as by the regional government of Madrid and in more than a dozen projects financed by companies and research centres.

As a result of his research, he has filed two patents and has made several contributions to national and international conferences as well as journals. Below is a list of his latest publications in international journals.
