welding and metalwork

PRACTICAL

Practical Day 2

TOPIC: TEMPLATES

AIMS:To enable the participant to apply the theorem of Pythagoras to a real life situation. To enable participants develop a roof truss.

FORM OF ACTIVITY:Practical application

Principle of setting out of the right angled triangle, the application of Pythagoras theorem. Use principle of 3,4 and 5 (use any number sequence). Standard cross and backmarks.

Transference of floor diagrams to templates.

Make a strip, flange and web templates (include coloured and letters holes)

RESOURCES:Template materials: wood, cardboard, thin steel plates, vinyl material and hardboard. Marking-off tools.

Practical Day 3

TOPIC: TEMPLATES

AIMS:To enable the participant to apply the theorem of Pythagoras to a real life situation. To enable participants develop a roof truss. To enable the participants to do calculations on a roof truss

FORM OF ACTIVITY:Practical application

Make a strip, flange and web templates (include coloured and letters holes)

Develop a roof truss with a 2 meter spanusing the given instructions and templates and by applying theorem of Pythagoras. The layout should include details of purlins, truss shoes, wall plates, gusset plates, gusset plates, expansion and footing.

Do calculations of roof trusses:

  • Rise
  • Slope
  • Pitch

RESOURCES:Template materials: wood, cardboard, thin steel plates and hardboard. Marking-off tools.

Materials for roof truss:

  • 50x50x6 angle iron,
  • Steel plate 6mm thick.
  • Bolt and nuts
  • M10x15 Bolt and nuts
