Re:NAME OF SCHOOL

CITY/TOWN, BC & POSTAL CODE

I am writing to ask for your assistance with the Ministry of Education Independent School certification process for a new independent school, [name of school], that we plan to open in your jurisdiction this September.

As part of the new school certification process, the Ministry requires the new school to obtain a letter from the local municipality confirming that the proposed new school facility complies with all local municipal requirements.

According to the Independent School Act (ISA), the Inspector of Independent Schools must be satisfied that:

the independent school facilities comply with the enactments of British Columbia and the municipality or the regional district in which the facilities are located, [ISA, Schedule, section 1 (b)]

Accordingly, we ask you to provide us with a response indicating whether you are aware of any compliance concerns relating to municipal or /regional district bylaws regarding (Name of School)’s facility and location, including but not limited to:

  • zoning and land uses
  • building bylaws
  • public health
  • BC Fire Code compliance.

Since we are a newly registering independent school, the Ministry requires that we submit a copy of the Confirmation of Municipal Compliance by June 1, 20XX.

Please inform us of any questions or compliance concerns you may have and we will ensure these are addressed in a timely fashion.

Your early reply is much appreciated.

Sincerely,
