Current fall prevention programs offered in OrangeCounty(a list in progress)

  • Anaheim Fire Department – Presents lectures on falls and fires at community centers or health fairs
  • Fullerton Fire department – Sends out booklets that include fall prevention to older adult residents
  • Newport Beach Fire Department – Speak at the OASIS senior center approximately four times per year about safety and injury prevention; will go out more often if requested
  • Orange CountyFire Authority - Upon request, the O.C.F.A. does send out representatives to give a program on safety (usually this is to senior centers). This program does include a portion on fall prevention. The OCFA Community Relations dept. also does have flyers about fall prevention.
  • ST. JUDE MEDICAL CENTER SENIOR SERVICES- FALLS RISK REDUCTION PROGRAM - Program offers a variety of services including Home Safety Assessments, recommendation of adaptive equipment, referrals for needed resources and outreach education.
  • Talbert Medical Group– Community education classes (MobilityAids: Safety and Maintenance, Practical Facts of Home Safety, Adapting Your Home to Your Needs, Your Nurses' Advice for Medication Safety - Taking Charge!)
  • Bristol Park Medical Group - Give a Fall Prevention Lecture at different senior housing facilities or senior centers.
  • Family Choice Medical Group – Offer community based programs, some are on fall prevention; classes are open to the public
  • OrangeCoastMemorialMedicalCenter – Offers a senior health series, which includes fall prevention.
  • PHCA, SHOPP - Medical assessments (fall questions included)
  • START - Medication management
  • SaddlebackMemorialHospital - Offers medical management, social services, balance and fall risk reduction one-on-one therapy with licensed physical therapists, vestibular rehabilitation, home safety assessments, community balance and mobility classes.
  • UC, IrvineMedicalCenter's Patient Health Education department offers "Balance and Mobility for Seniors: A class that helps you stay on your feet."
  • Corona del Mar Rehab, Inc. has a Balance and Gait Protocol that ispresented to the consumers on a yearly basis. There are three licensed physical therapists that have developed the protocol and present the lecture at Senior Centers.
  • North Orange County Community College District - balance and mobility classes
  • Center for Successful Aging (CSUF) offers classes to improve health, fitness, mobility, and balance for 50 plus adults.
  • Stayhome Safe - Provides acomprehensive service which assesses the safety and functionality of a residence based on the clients’ specific needs, researches, acquires, assembles and installs all necessary equipment and constructs any desired changes to the client’sresidence or property.

  • Community SeniorServ - Conducts an in-home safety inspection annually for every homebound client. They are sometimes able to repair safety problems or make small purchases to increase in-home safety using grant funding.

  • SANTA ANA COLLEGE-SCHOOL OF CONTINUING EDUCATION, STUDENT OUTREACH & CAREER CTR - offers classes to promote physical and mental well being, Tai Chi, Yoga, fitness, weight management, diabetes management and more.
