CURRENT EVENTS: It’s hard to believe that Monday is the end of the 2nd six week grading period! Thanks to all the children who helped raise money for Wounded Warrior Project by paying a $1.00 to wear a hat on Veterans’ Day. For our cub Cash Bash, the children did a craft making eagles with the paper towel tubes that you sent in for us. Thanks to Mrs. Hogshead for painting the tubes brown with our children!

Science: We explored how a solid and a liquid mixed. One of our new vocabulary words to use was dissolve. The child noticed how the solid tablet moved and changed into a gas in their cups.

Social Studies: On Tuesday, we had a wonderful lesson about Veteran’s Day with our Scholastic News: “Veteran Mom!”The newspaper helped the children to understand the 5 different branches of our armed forces, while reading and learning about what it means to be a veteran.

Math:After reading the story, The Double -Decker Bus, the children used their rekenreks to explore different ways to arrange the double decker bus to find new sums or differences. On Thursday and Friday we did math at work stations practicing tally marks and adding on, skipping counting 5’s and writing to 100, playing subtraction/addition folder games, and double-decker bus matching bus cards that had equivalent facts.

Language Arts:The children have been learning the strokes for upper case I, L, T, J, and U. We practiced with a partner looking a unfamiliar words to find chunks or small words that we know to apply this strategy. Putting our word work words in alphabetical order is another skill that we are learning.
