Technology Article

Write a summary of a current event from an article on one of the following topics.

6th Grade:1) Bridge Design, 2) Any Bridge,3) Any Building, 4) Any Structure.

8th Grade:1) Aerodynamics (car, plane, etc.), 2) New Car Technology, 3) Alternate Fuels.

Due Date:

Early BonusDate:

Hand in your paper earlier than the due dateto receive a ½ letter grade bonus!

Example: B+ becomes an A, A becomes an A+.

Late Date:

You will lose 1 full grade per day!

Examples:Day 1 – an A+ becomes a B+, B = C.

Day 2– an A+ becomes aC+,B = D.

Day 3 – F for grade.

  1. Include original Article (photocopy, or print it).

Find an article from a magazine or newspaper you think is interesting, is within 6 months old, and – you understand.

Original article must be more than 200 words.

Be sure it is NOT an advertisement.

Highlight or underline important sentences (only).

You may bring your article in for approval or assistance.

  1. Your Summary of Article.
  • A summary shows readers that you read -and understood - the original article.
  • Do not rewrite the author’s words. Explain what was writtenin YOUR own words.

Minimum 3 paragraphs: 1) INTRODUCTORY PARAGRAPH, 2) MAIN DETAILS, and3) Finish with a CONCLUSION/YOUR OPINION. Opinion is key to a better grade!

Your summary should be more than ½ a pageif typed (@ 12-point font size), and more than¾ of a pageif handwritten.

Check spelling, grammar, punctuation.

No Cover Page necessary - on top of your summary page,per example above, include:

 1) Full Name, 2) Period, 3) Grade, and 4) Date of Summary, 5) Mr. Shampanier / Technology.

Also, include 6) Title of Article, 7) Original Date of Article, 8) Author, and 9) PublicationName.

Publications:PRINT - Newsday, The NY Times, Discover magazine, etc. ONLINE -Newsday.com, NYTimes.com,PWPL.org, TreeHugger.com, etc. If you use Google or Yahoo, click the NEWS tab to search first.
