CURRENT BOOK SECTIONOLD SECTION (powerpoints)

5.25.2 (but ppt goes over exact way to find integral,

5.2 homework is only estimating using LSUM,RSUM,MSUM and also goes over finding exact using the area method only, you will have to go over some on the board by hand)

7.75.9 (trapezoid method and simpson’s method)

5.35.4 (does derivative of an interval, AND F(b) – F(a). You will want to go over a problem such as 2,3,or 4 together in class

5.4None (More F(b)-F(a) and other review and applications, students need to simplify first before they take the antiderivative. Make sure when they are simplifying they still use the integral sign on their work. Once they take the antiderivative the integral sign goes away.

5.55.5 (U-substitution, will take a few days or more for students to grasp)

6.16.1 (area between two curves. Either top – bottom (dx) or right – left (dy)

6.26.2day2 (ppt on disks and washers only) I’m not a fan of the slicing problems in the text. I supplement using AP Central FRQs. Some of the worksheets I have in the files have decent problems too. With the textbook reviews and worksheets you will have to check that the volume problems can be solved with disks/washers only (not shell method 6.3). If assigning other book review problems, check the solution guide first. If you get ambitious you could go over that (it’s a BC topic) Some students end up going over that on their own, it will make some of the washer problems a little easier, but I find for many kids I would rather them be experts at the AB topic first.

6.56.4 (average value, should be a very quick section for students to pick up, you have probably already had to explain it before this point especially if you have been assigning questions from AP Central FRQs. We even already talked about it some at the very end of first semester.

9.1none (I don’t have in my plans to necessarily assign problems from this section, usually I use and copy the packet from the slope field book, but feel free to use problems from this section

9.27.1 (direction fields only, Euler’s method is NOT an AB topic and I don’t believe it’s a BC topic either but not 100% sure)

9.37.3 (separation of variables, you have to be careful of book problems that students are able to solve the integral using AB methods only. In the past I have used more worksheets and ap central frq problems to supplement. Students always seem to have issues with this section—it should not be a difficult topic but I think students are getting stressed out mid semester getting ready for their AP tests
