Project Description: This project consists of a new three story math/science complex including a 70,000 sf laboratory core, with primarily dry labs on the first floor, wet biology labs on the second floor, and chemistry labs on the third floor. There is 20,000 sf of office space and 20,000 sf of classrooms dedicated to each discipline, primarily in separate zones. The labs wrap around a central service core consisting of tech offices, lab preparation rooms, and lab storage rooms. Students will enter the labs from the opposite side of the central service core providing safe separation of students and chemicals. Student break-out spaces, computer labs, and a resource center for studying and tutorial sessions will be provided.
Progress
Exterior: This month the color coat of plaster was applied on the south elevation of Wing A and the north elevation of Wing B. Exterior gypsum wallboard was installed on the west elevation of wing C and progress continued around Wing A as various components that make up the “skin” of the building were installed. The application of intumescent paint at the stair towers for wings B & C continued as did the application of intumescent paint at the exposed canopy steel between Wings A and C. The Neutralization Tank was also installed to the west of the building.
Wing A: Inside the Equipment Roomthe installation of piping to the Equipment made great progress. The work at the elevator was substantially completed and casework installation was substantially completed on the second floor and will progress to the third floor as soon as the staining of floors is completed on that level. Approximately 50% of the t-bar grid at the ceiling of the third floor was installed as were the light fixtures in those locations. The installation of seismic bracing for the plumbing piping started on the third floor. Stainless steel ductwork was installed at the roof which completed the runs of stainless steel ductwork at the roof except for transition pieces where the duct meets the shafts or where it ties into the sound traps at the exhaust fans. Condensate lines for the air conditioning units were installed on the roof as well.
Wing B: The hydronic piping inside the building was substantially completed as the installation of gypsum wallboard continued on the first floor and progressed to the second floor. Ductwork was installed at the shafts as was framing in an attempt to close up the shafts next month.
Wing C: At Wing Cthe hydronic piping to the Variable Air Volume units was substantially completed and the framing of the soffit at the first floor Lecture Room started. Electrical and Data work continued throughout the building.
