Visitor Advisory

We look forward to your visit to Cummins Rocky Mount Engine Plant. In order to make your visit a safe and informative time, please read and be aware of the following information.

We are the Cummins Rocky Mount Engine Plant - located at 9377 North US Hwy 301, Whitakers, NC 27891 - Phone: 252.437.6611 (Map Quest may show it as Consolidated Diesel Company)

  • When you arrive at the plant follow the signs to the visitors parking lot, go in the front door to the receptionist desk where you will pick up safety glasses, safety vest and visitor badges.
  • You will be escorted to your designated Conference Room, where a brief plant overview will be given before you go on the tour of the facility. (A detailed plant tour will take from 1.5 to 2 hrs. depending on the questions you may have.) Please wear comfortable shoes (no open toe/heel).
  • Visitors are not permitted to have cameras in the facility.
  • Visitor Safety Guidelines:
  • Safety Glasses
  • Safety glasses (with permanent affixed side shields) are required in all areas except the cafeteria, and enclosed office areas.
  • Safety Shoes
  • Safety shoes are required in all production areas. Anytime you cross over any "yellow/green" egress line in any production area, you must have on steel toe shoes or toe caps. Ladies shoes should be flat and comfortable for touring. (Sandals/shoes with heel/toes out cannot be worn on the tour route)
  • Safety Vest
  • High Visibility Vests - All Visitors, Cummins Employees and Suppliers seeking entry to areas of a Cummins facility where powered industrial vehicles are operating shall be provided with and wear a high visibility vest. Only excluded are the Cummins employees who operate from that area of the said facility.
  • Smoking
  • RMEP has designated smoking areas. Should you desire to use it, your host will escort you to the proper location. .
  • Dress Code
  • RMEP requires you to dress in attire that is appropriate for the work you are performing and to wear clothing that does not have the potential to be a safety hazard. No shorts. A visitor not in proper attire will be provided with a disposable lab coat in order to participate in the facility tour.
  • Miscellaneous
  • Visitor badges will be provided and must be worn at all times while in the plant.
  • Visitors must stay with RMEP guides/host at all times while in the plant.
  • While on tour it is required that visitors stay with the group, never cross over the “Yellow line” near machinery or reach into a machine area.
  • Plant Evacuation
  • In the event we should have to evacuate the plant, you will hear an alarm signal that is a loud repeated short blast. Evacuate to nearest exit and go to the assigned designated area. Wait for verbal re-entry order from the Plant Emergency Team. Since you are a visitor, please stay with your RMEP employee that you are visiting for all emergency instruction and procedures.
  • Take Shelter
  • In the event we would need to take shelter you will hear a continuous blast. Go to the nearest rest-room on the ground floor. You will see a sign on the rest rooms that says "Take Shelter." Stay there until the Plant Emergency Team gives the okay signal that it is safe to come out.
