Culminating Project for Lord of the Flies

Choose one of the following projects to show your understanding of the text. I’m looking for analysis, creativity, reflection on the text, and originality. . Reveal your opinions and ideas through your project. LET ME SEE WHAT YOU THINK.

  1. Create a symbolic representation of human nature as expressed through Lord of the Flies. This can be through a painting, a photograph, sculpture, or a poem. This should not be something that is sketched on a piece of paper. It should be a work of art; something of which you are proud.
  2. Create a littleun’s journal describing his experiences on the island. The journal should cover all major events on the island. Be sure to use language that is appropriate for a six year old child. Drawings can certainly accompany the littleun’s words. Because this is one of the easier choices, more is expected.
  3. Create another chapter to Lord of the Flies. This chapter should continue with what happens to the children once they leave the island. Be sure to follow William Golding in the style of his writing. DICTION is important.
  4. Create a script for a talk show in which characters from the book are reunited. Film the talk show. The filmed show shouldn’t be any longer than 15 minutes. You should examine questions we have as readers. Both the script and the video should be turned in.
  5. Create a survival manual for living on the island with the other boys. This manual should include all the important materials, strategies and essential knowledge for survival. Your manual must include, but is not limited to, an illustrated cover, a table of contents, examples and illustrations of the strategies offered, clearly defined and logical instructions for survival in different circumstances.
  6. Through visual images, connect The Lord of the Flies to real examples in humanity. Along with the project, include a journal tracing your ideas and thoughts associated with each image while explaining the connections.
  7. Create the Beastie through sculpture. This is very open ended.
  8. Create a mask for the following characters: Ralph, Piggy, Simon, and Jack. The masks should reflect the nature of each of the characters.
  9. Write an abridged version of The Lord of the Flies and act it out. The acted out version shouldn’t be any longer than 15 minutes. Since it is a shortened version of the novel, you must choose the essential elements of the story. Film the abridgement. For this assignment you can work with another student from your class or with a student from my other Honors class.
  10. Write a newspaper article detailing the events of the island. Refer to specifics and use “interview” quotes to make connects for the book. This should be about 3 pages and include visuals. In addition, you might include a gossip column, opinion section, and ads related to events that happened on the island.

If you have an idea that is not listed, come see me.
