Accumulation
/
  • Contain in drums or portable tanks
  • Return to the production system

Waste Reduction
/
  • Return crude oil liquid to the crude oil stream.
  • For crude oil recovered with oily rags/pads go to: “Oily Rags”.

Disposal
/ Crude oil:
  • Return crude oil liquid to the crude oil stream.
  • Send material used to absorb crude oil to a facility that will beneficially reuse the material as fuel. See “Oily Rags.
  • Do not place in trash or allow to be placed in landfill.

Recordkeeping
/ For returning to the production stream: No record-keeping is required.
For shipping use well test for analysis:
  • Complete entry as “Petroleum Crude Oil” in Hazardous Materials Section of the Apache Shipping Manifest, prior to transportation.
  • Maintain a copy of manifest offshore and at shore base facilities while shipping papers are active. Send original manifest with shipment.
If sent to a refinery, no records need be kept.
If sent to a used oil recycler, keep records for three years.

Shipping Instructions:Crude Oil and Condensate

1.Call or FAX Dock/Base to schedule shipment.

2.Package Crude oil as follows:

  1. Return to Production System if salvage oil.
  2. Non-Bulk Packaging:

1.Steel drum 1A1 or 1A2,

c.Bulk Packaging:

1.DOT 51, 52, 53, 57, or 60 Portable Tanks

2.IMO Type 1, 2, or 5 or IM 101 or 102 Portable Tanks

3.Marine Portable Tanks

3.Mark Package:

a.Petroleum Crude Oil, 3, NA1267, PG II

b.Stencil Container-”Apache” and the generator's location (i.e. EugeneIsland 158)

4.Label Package:

  1. "Flammable Liquid" label.
  2. For packages having a volume over 64 cubic feet (478 gallons) and for portable tanks of less than 1000 gallons: Place labels on at least two ends (other than the bottom) or two sides.

5.Prepare shipping papers:

  1. Complete entry in Hazardous Materials Section [Section I] of the Apache Shipping Manifest. (See example)

6.Placard Vehicle/Vessel

  1. For cargoes of more than 1000 pounds or Bulk Shipments: "Flammable" Placard with the NA Number 1267 and the number 3 in the lower corner (1000 pounds of Crude oil is approximately 145 gallons).
  2. For cargoes less than 1000 pounds of total hazardous material: No Placard required on transport vehicle.
  3. Cargo or portable tanks shall be placarded as above on opposite sides if capacity is between 119 and 999 gallons and on all four sides if 1000 gallons or more.
