Using Adobe Audition to Record Your Voice

Open Adobe Audition from either the Desktop Shortcut or the Start Menu
Switch to Waveform View (Edit View) by pressing [8] or clicking the Waveform icon

Press the RED record button and select your sample type: (ex. 44100 | Mono | 16-bit)

When recording voice, choose Mono for a smaller file size and be ready to start recording as soon as you choose your sample type.

When you are finished recording, hit the Stop button

From here you may choose to Save your file, Edit your file, or Import your file into a multi track session

How to reduce noise in your recording

Noise reduction takes a lot of work (trial and error) so don't get frustrated. Without professional equipment, getting the right amount of noise reduction while maintaining audio quality can be very difficult. Just try to get as close as possible: noise reduction is never perfect.

Open your audio file (if it isn't already loaded) by going to File on the menu bar and selecting Open
Choose the location of your file and click Open

Be sure you are in Waveform View (by pressing [8])
When your audio file is loaded, press CTRL+A to select the entire audio clip
On the menu bar, go to Effects | Noise Reduction | Hiss Reduction

NOTE: You can also try the other Noise Reduction options if Hiss Reduction does not work for you.

Choose High, Light, or Standard Hiss Reduction (Standard Hiss Reduction seems to work best in most instances)
Click the Get Noise Floor button (you will need to do this for each reduction method you choose)

At this point you may also adjust the Noise Floor manually using the scroll bar.

Click the Preview button to hear the results before you apply them

You may need to play around with these settings to get the right effect you are looking for. Be patient and you should have no problems.

How to save your file

Remember to choose the proper format when saving your file.

From the menu bar, choose File | Save As
Choose a location to save your file
Choose a File Type or format to save your audio clip

From here you may choose from multiple file types such as MP3, WAV, VOX, SND, PCM, RAW, etc.

For advanced options, click the Options tab

This is for advanced file type settings such as compression ratios, codecs, and sample bitrates. Most of the time you will not need to set advanced options.

Click the Save button to save your audio clip

How to use multiple tracks for voice and audio

Getting the timing right for a multiple track session is very important.

Open Adobe Audition from either the Desktop Shortcut or the Start Menu
Be sure you are in Multitrack View by pressing [9] or clicking the Multitrack button

Load the audio tracks you wish to use into the File List by clicking the Import File icon

Do this for each file you wish to load into your multitrack session.

Drag each loaded audio clip to it's own track on the timeline

At this point you will need to adjust each clip (by draging them left or right) to get them syncronized

To test the multitrack audio clip, click on the Play button. You may also double-click on any track or clip to edit them individually in Waveform View, then go back to Multitrack View to continue your multitrack session.

How to save/export your multi-track session

Be sure to save both the session and the final exported audio. If you export the audio only, you will not be able to go back and edit your multitrack session.

When your multitrack session is complete, first go to the menu bar and select File | Save Session
Choose a location to save your session file and click Save
When your multitrack session has been saved go to the menu bar and select File | Export | Audio

The Export Audio dialog is very similar to the Save As dialog.

Choose a file type to export your session as

Advanced options can be set at this point for certain file types by click the Options button.

Click the Save button to export your multitrack session audio
