Topics of discussion included:
- Our Storytelling and Writing Groups inquiries of interest are in our Survey Monkey, so no need to discuss them tonight.
- Madeleine is moving back east and will work for Peace Corps Washington DC starting Jan. 4th! We will miss her so much. We deeply appreciate all she did for and all she brought to the group.
- Two board openings now exist as a result of her departure: Networking/mentorship coordinator and
program coordinator.
- Are there any nominations for our fundraising coordinator position tonight?
- Those present approved the meeting minutes from ourOct. 10th board/business meeting. Meeting minutes from the budget/finance committee meeting (from Nov. 1st) were adopted. We amended the FY 2011 budget.
- Each board member will try to get one item for our December auction.
- We discussed lowering the annual dues for members with a low or on a fixed income. We discussed if that would or could include the unemployed? Students? We discussed adding an extra line to the membership form so that folks could contribute toward a ‘scholarship’ fund that would help distressed people with their membership dues. We decided to table a decision until it comes up as an issue again.
- We then talked about grant decision-making protocol(s). We folded comments from our Sept 19th meeting into Richard’s draft guidelines. We deleted the “…the ideal program…” sentence. We are not changing our criteria for grant money delegation but rather clarifying our general overall desired for what we would typically prefer to fund.
- Our next potluck is 12 Dec. at Cate Wilcox’s house. No business meeting is scheduled, but rather food, drinks, conversation, and a silent auction to raise money for our grant program.
- Tonight’s program is presented by Jennifer Ruwart, founder and CEO of Moyo Jasiri. “Empowering Women thru Leadership”.
The next CRPCA meeting will be: Sunday, 2/13, 5:00 to 8:00 pm – Potluck Gathering. Location: the home of Linda Centurion.
Yemen before it was popular: one ex-diplomat's experience. First-hand account by Noah Siegel, former Foreign Service Officer, US Dept of State. Yemen is known to host Al-Qaeda and sits at the cross-roads of strategic power politics. The Peace Corps closed its program there in the early 1990s. Noah Siegel currently serves as Director of International Affairs for the City of Portland.
