Forestry & Wildlife Habitat Management Tour

This is a continuing education course for private, non-industrial forest landowners.

DESCRIPTION

This workshop covers basics on wildlife habitat enhancement, forest management, and pine thinning.

We will meet at the farm at 4:00 p.m. for registration. We will then start a field tour at around 4:30. Please wear field clothes, boots, and insect repellant!

Pre-registration is required for everyone attending to have a count for the meal. Thisworkshop is free to attendees, with financial support from a sponsor.A meal and reference materials are provided. Course space is limited, so please RSVP by OCT. 24th.

4:00 – 4:30PM Registration at Bobby Watkins Tree Farm

4:30PM Start tour on Watkins Tree Farm off Coontail Roadwith our host, Mr. Bobby Watkins. Stops will include Optimizing Pine (Forest) Plantations for wildlife (birds, bees, whitetail, turkey, etc.) with thinning, burning, and inner plantings.

Stop 1:Prescribed Burning and Deer Habitat – Mr. John Gruchy and Mr. Rick Hamrick with MDWF&P, and Mr. Bobby Watkins.

Stop 2: Pine Thinning for Timber and Wildlife Habitat –Mr. Adam Tullos, MSU Extension Service
