Job title:Business Development Manager

Location:Head Office (Erith) and neighbouring boroughs

Responsible to: Chief Executive

Job Summary

This is a new role, resulting from an increase in the geographic area of benefit served by Crossroads Care Bexley, the purpose of which is to drive and support the growth and development of Crossroads Care by expanding existing (inherited) services in the London Boroughs of Greenwich and Lewisham, and the introduction of services intothe London Borough of Bromley.

Main purpose of the post

  • To identify and drive opportunities for Crossroads Care to develop current service provision, secure new business and reach more carers in the target boroughs, in line with the organisation’s strategic aims.
  • To take the lead on ensuring that the organisation is “at the top table” in the target boroughs and has in place high quality tendering, bidding and funding application processes.
  • To provide the CEO and Board with expert advice on all aspects of income generation.
  • To participate with the senior management and Board in strategic and business planning and ensuring the delivery of all outputs related to business development.

Main tasks include

1.Strategic development

1.1 To research and develop market intelligence of local trends and needs of carers and service users of all ages in the target boroughs.

1.2 To identify and be aware of all relevant tendering opportunities in the target boroughs.

1.3To build relationships with, and promote CCB’s full service offer to, local authority borough commissioners and care managers, GPs and the new NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups.

1.4To identify and build relationships, and identify and progress opportunities for collaboration, with potential partner organisations,as a means of enhancing services and developing new business opportunities.

1.5To develop and implement robust marketing strategies, including review and development of marketing materials, to ensure Crossroads Care are at the forefront of service delivery to carers and promoted to the wider public in the target boroughs.

1.5To promote the work of the organisation and needs of carers by giving presentations and representing the organisation at external events.

1.7In collaboration with the CEO, to keep abreast of social care developments, legislative changes and identify and assess how these might impact on the demand for Crossroads Care services.

2. Business development

2.1 To win new business, expanding the services, service volume and carer reach.

2.2Appraisal of business opportunities, including all relevant tendering opportunities, progressive introduction of Direct Payment/Self Funding care, and opportunities to reach hidden carers.

2.3 To undertake (with support from the CEO), monitor and manage the compilation, submission and presentation of high quality proposals, tenders, bidding documents and funding applications.

2.4To liaise with the CEO and operations / care services senior staff to gather all relevant information for funding applications to increase services provided and develop new services to support more carers and their families.

2.5To identify new sources of income and opportunities to generate increased revenue, including fundraising, to support existing and new services, and sustainability of this post or its replacement.

2.5 To support the Chief Executive to negotiate service level agreements and contracts and ensure compliance with the terms and conditions.

2.7To take the lead on identifying any new internal systems and procedures required to support the introduction of new services, and ensure implementation with other relevant staff.

2.8To advise the CEO and Board on progress, issues, developments, the market and other competitor activities, and any changes in the target boroughs that impact CCB’s services.

2.9To monitor work and evaluate work undertaken and produce reports as required

2.10To participate in the development of high quality services with other members of staff, and in the organisation’s short and long term fundraising strategy.

3.General

3.8To comply with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and with Crossroads Care policy, paying particular attention to the reporting of dangerous situations.

3.9To undertake any other duties that may be considered commensurate with the level of the post.

Qualifications
Educated to graduate or equivalent level
Qualification in Business Management or equivalent. / NVQ Level 4 Business Management or equivalent
Experience
Experience of information gathering, clear analysis and making recommendations, including preparation and presentation of reports
Management experience in a senior role in the voluntary or statutory sector
Experience of project management, including budgets and finances
Experience of business development, developing proposals and negotiating with clients / Experience of working in the voluntary sector
Experience of presenting information to a wide audience of stakeholders at all levels
Experience of setting up new services
Experience of leading others in the development of services and managing change
Experience in fundraising

Terms of Employment

  • The Business Development contract is for an initial period of 18 months, but may be extended to 24 months subject to performance, delivery and funding.
  • There is a probationary period of 6 months from the date of commencement.
  • The notice period for termination of employment is one month for either side.
  • During the period of employment the role holder is entitled to 28 days holiday, including public holidays, per full year of service.
  • The normal office hours of work are 9am – 5pm, 5 days per week. However this post will require time out of the office and the job holder will be expected to work flexibly to deliver the role. Some evening working will be required, and weekend working may be required. The role holder will be entitled for time off in lieu for this (excluding attendance at Board meetings which are a known element of the work).
