Week 1 Geography / Write a list of different continents. Which countries can you name in each continent? / Write a paragraph to describe what New York is like to someone who has never visited. Remember to talk about climate, transport, landscape, features etc. / Make a “What am I” quiz for America. / Draw a map of America. What key features can you label? / Design and make a new flag for America. / Write a list of 5 things that everyone needs to know about living in America and explain why they are important.
Week 2 Maths / Plot the annual rainfall in North America on a block graph. / Convert the currency of North America into pounds sterling.
Use a shopping list to convert into yen. / Rank cities in North America terms of the population and place the top 10 on a line graph. / Create a graph to show the volcanoes in Mexico compared to the rest of the world. / Create a 24 hour timeline for a person noting the differences to someone who lives in England. / Rank the top 10 cities according to population and give reasons why they are where they are.
Week 3
Art / List and draw 4 animals associated with North America, / Find a USA flag. Identify the colours and identify what each colour represents. Create your own flag of USA using different materials. / Research the national flower, animal and bird of North America. Choose one and create using different materials. / Look at photos of the presidents. Create your own drawing of the president of the United States. Use whatever materials you wanted. Make it as creative as you can. / Find an American recipe, and make it / Design and build your own totem pole using junk materials, such as cardboard boxes, newspaper and card.
Week 4 Nature / Locate and show where a natural disaster has happened in North America. / Go to the supermarket and see if you can find out any food that is imported from America. Try fruit and vegetables. Draw and describe the different foods. / Write a report about weather in America.. / Collect photos of beaches/islands of North America. Show on a map where they are. / Write an American poem about the nature of America (think mountains, volcanoes, cherry blossoms) / Imagine you are going to visit North America in 2050. Write/draw what you expect to find when you get there. Explain why you believe it will be like this.
Week 5
History / Research different historians who are associated with North America / Write a report on the history of religion in Mexico. / Conduct a mock interview with the president of America. / Create a tourist pamphlet detailing information about the festivals and traditions of North America. / Rank at least 5 Mexico customs according to your own criteria and write a paragraph on each to justify your rankings.
Week 6
Geography / List all regions in North America. / Create a diorama of a famous place in North America. / Construct a map of North America showing major places of industry and /or landmarks. / How is North America’s landscape similar/different to Britain? / Create and record a TV advertisement for tourism in North America. / Britain or North America? Which is better? Write a persuasive speech to argue your point.
