Dear Mr. Durham:

Thank you for your interest and support of agricultural literacy! May this letter serve as confirmation of the Ag Returns to the City program coming to your school on October 2, 2013 from 9:30 am – 2:20 pm. For this program, I will be presenting our Candy Camouflage lesson to your 4th grade classes. Students will learn the how animals use their habitat to protect themselves from predators. Students will do an experiment to collect data to create a tally sheet and a bar graph.

The Maryland Agricultural Education Foundation (MAEF) is happy to share various teacher resources and student activities with your school. MAEF has greatly subsidized the cost of this outreach program and provides it to your school at no cost. For this reason, it is critical that any such changes to the program (such as date, time, location, or teacher illness) should be reported to me as soon as possible. I can be contacted at (410)-960-2979.

MAEF is a non-profit, non-governmental organization whose mission is to increase the awareness of and appreciation for agriculture in the daily lives of Marylanders. MAEF was established in 1989 and has various programs, including teacher professional development, student-led activities through mobile laboratories and classroom visits, as well as general public outreach. Several funding sources, such as revenue generated from sales of the AG TAG license plate and private grants and donations, allow MAEF to cover the expenses of this program Ag Returns to the City. For additional information about the Maryland Agricultural Education Foundation, please visit the website www.maefonline.com or call the office at (410) 939-9030.

I look forward to visiting your school soon!

Sincerely,

Charles Gummer
