CRLBULLET RESISTANT TRANSPARENT PACKAGE RECEIVER

USE THIS SECTION WHEN SPECIFYING C.R. LAURENCE BULLET RESISTANT TRANSPARENT PACKAGE RECEIVERSsuitable for any commercial application. Specific performance levels of BULLET RESISTANCE are defined herein.

PART 1-GENERAL

1.1SUMMARY

A.Clear Package ReceiverUnderwriters Laboratory UL 752 standard for bullet resistant protection levels1 and 3.

1.3REFERENCE STANDARDS

  1. Underwriters Laboratory UL 752 – Standard Specification for Bullet Resisting Components.
  2. NIJ Standard 0108.01- (National Institute of Justice) Standard for Ballistic Resistant Protective Materials.

1.4SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

A. Through the design, manufacturing techniques, and material application the CRL ClearPackage Receiver shall be constructed of either clear acrylic with a UL Standard 752Level 1, or clear polycarbonate with a UL Standard Level 3 rating (Specify). Thisassembly is intended for interior use only. The bottom is constructed of plywood andbullet resistant fiberglass covered with plastic laminate. A special interlockingmechanism allows only one door to open at a time, allowing packages to be passedthrough without a breach of security. A closer is furnished on customer side door. Contents can be viewed from the top and all four sides. Handing is determined by hingeplacement on customer’s side. Anchor screws shall be provided by the installer.

1.5SUBMITTALS

  1. Submit under provisions of Section 01 3300.
  1. Product Data: Submit Manufacturer’s technical product data forCRL Clear Package Receivers.
  1. Shop Drawings: Dimensioned drawings of CRL Clear Package Receiversindicating the following:

1.Elevations.

2. Manufacturer’s installation and maintenance instructions.

1.6QUALITY ASSURANCE

  1. Manufacturer shall be a company that specializes in manufacturing products of the specified type with a minimum of five years experience. Installer shall be a company that specializes in product type specified.
  1. All components and fittings are furnished by the same manufacturer.

1.7DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

  1. Deliver materials properly protected against damage to finished surfaces during transit.
  1. Inspect materials upon delivery for damage. Unless minor defects can be made to meet the Architect’s specifications and satisfaction, damaged parts should be removed and replaced.
  1. Store materials at building site under cover in dry location

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.3FABRICATION

A.Bullet Resistant Package Receiver shall be: CRL CPR Series Acrylic or PolycarbonatePackage Passer with interlocking doors. The CPR package receiver consists of asquare box built from transparent bullet resistant glazing material, with doors on thecustomer and employee sides. An interlocking mechanism prevents the opening of bothdoors simultaneously, allowing packages to be passed through a barrier without abreach of security. Standard base is plywood and bullet resistant fiberglass covered with black plastic laminate.

PART 3 – EXECUTION

3.1EXAMINATION

A.Prior to installing the bullet resistant Clear Package Receiver, the contractor shall verifythat allsupports have been installed as required by the contract documents,

architecturaldrawings, and approved shop/CAD drawings, if required. Installer shall

notify the architectof any unsatisfactory preparation that is the responsibility of another trade.

3.2INSTALLATION, GENERAL

A.Clean and prepare all surfaces per manufacturers recommendations for achieving the

best results for the substrate under the project conditions.

B.Do not begin installation until openings have been verified and surfaces properly

prepared in accordance with drawings. Install in accordance with manufacturer’s

instructions and UL 752. Set all equipment plumb. Unit shall be installed in provided

opening, secured to substrate (anchors by others).

3.3CLEANING

A.Clean glazing surfaces after installation, complying with requirements contained in the manufacturer’s instructions. Remove excess glazing sealant compounds, decals, dirt or other substances.

B.Remove protective films from plastic and metalsurfaces.

3.4PROTECTION

  1. Institute protective measures required throughout the remainder of the construction period to ensure that all the materials do not incur any damage or deterioration.
  1. Repair components damaged by subsequent construction activities in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations; replace damaged components that cannot be repaired to Architect’s acceptance.
