Parent and Family Engagement Policy

Purpose:

The Crisp County Board of Education affirms and assures the rights of parents and of children being served in activities funded by Title I the opportunity to participate in the design and implementation of these activities as prescribed in the 2001 re-authorization of ESEA. Collaborative input into the design of Title I funded programs shall be solicited from parents, school councils, and school improvement steering committees on an annual basis.

Crisp County High School is dedicated to providing quality education for every student in our district. To accomplish this objective, the district will develop and maintain partnerships with parents/guardians, community members in Crisp County, Georgia. By establishing and maintaining open lines of communication, we will expand and enhance learning opportunities for every child.

What is Parental Involvement?

Parental involvement means the participation of parents in regular, two-way, and meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities including:

•  That parents play an integral role in assisting their child’s learning

•  That parents are encouraged to actively involved in their children’s education

•  That parents are full partners in their children’s education and are included, as appropriate, in decision-making and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their

Jointly Developed:

Crisp County High School hosted an input meeting in May of 2017. All parents and community stakeholders were invited to collaborate in the development and revision of the School Family Engagement Policy. While at this input meeting, all participants were allotted an opportunity to provide input on the revision of this policy. An annual survey was also given to every parent. This survey was able to be accessed on paper, as well as electronically. This survey allowed parents an opportunity to provide feedback on the current School Family Engagement Policy, as well as provide information to be included on the revised one. The revised Family Engagement Policy will be accessible to all parents and community stakeholders via Crisp County High School’s website. This policy will also be in the Guidance suite at Crisp County High School, as well as the Parent Resource Center.

Annual Title I Meeting:

Crisp County High School will hold an annual Title I meeting in September of 2017. This meeting will be offered at two different times of the day to make things more convenient for all parties invited. Parents, along with community stakeholders, will be invited to attend this meeting. At this meeting, the completed school-level Family Engagement Policy and School-Parent Compact are disseminated and reviewed. Other topics that will be discussed include: the school’s Title I program, the nature of the program, the parents’ requirements, complaint procedures including local, state and federal, and the county’s use of Title I funds.

Home/School Compacts:

Crisp County High School will take the following actions to jointly develop with parents of participating children a school-parent compact that outlines how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership to help children achieve the state’s high standards. In accordance with Title I regulations, annually, Crisp County High School will develop and revise a Home/School Compact. The compact outlines how parents, students, and staff share responsibility for promoting high student achievement. The compact is designed so that the student, his/her parent, and school representative can sign the document. Teachers will review this compact with parent/guardian at their annual conference. The revised compact will also be available on Crisp County High School’s website, as well as in the Guidance suite and Parent Resource Center.

Communications

Crisp County High School will take the following actions to provide parents of participating children the following:

·  Timely information about the Title I programs

·  Flexible number of meetings, such as meetings in the morning or evening, and may provide with Title I funds, transportation, child care or home visits, as such services relate to parent and family engagement.

·  Information related to the school and parent programs, meetings, and other activities, is sent to the parents of participating children in an understandable and uniform format, including alternative formats upon request and, to the extent practicable, in a language the parents can understand.

Building Capacity for Parent Involvement:

Crisp County High School will build the capacity for strong parental involvement by providing assistance to parents in understanding such topics as:

•  Georgia Common Core Curriculum

•  Georgia High School Assessments

•  The requirements of Title I Part A

•  How to monitor their child’s progress

•  High school graduation requirements

•  How to work with educators to improve the achievement of their child

Crisp County High School will foster parental involvement by providing materials and training such as literacy training and using technology, as appropriate, to help parents to improve their student’s academic achievement. Crisp County High School will educate teachers, staff, and principals on the value and utility of the contributions of parents. Ideas for reaching out to and communicating with parents as equal partners will be explored. Crisp County High School will coordinate and integrate parental involvement programs that teach parents how to help their child/children at home. The school will provide resources that encourage and support parents in fully participating in the education of their student (s).

Crisp County High School will ensure that information related to school and parent programs is provided in a format and language that is understandable to all parent/guardians.

Accessibility to Parent Involvement Opportunities:

Crisp County High School shall provide full opportunities for the participation of parents with children with limited English proficiency, parents of children with disabilities, and parents of migratory children. Information and reports will be provided in a format, to the extent practical, in a language that parents can understand.

Shared Responsibility for High Student Achievement:

Crisp County High School will provide a high quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet Georgia academic standards.

•  Curriculum alignment through Common Core GPS

•  Student Progress Monitoring

•  Technological support of student achievement through SRI, ASEND Math, portable and stationary computer labs, Extended Learning Time, After-School Tutoring

•  Saturday School

Crisp County High School will hold annual parent/teacher conferences:

•  Staff will be available for parent conferencing

•  Staff will schedule face to face meetings with the parents of each student at least annually.

•  Staff will discuss the roles and responsibilities of students, teachers, and parents as addressed in the Home/School Compact when conferencing with parents.

•  Teachers will regularly communicate by email, progress reports, report cards, and phone calls.

Crisp County High School will provide parents with frequent reports on their child’s progress. Specifically, the school will provide reports as follows:

•  Progress Reports at 4 week intervals

•  Report Cards each nine weeks

•  Parent Portal Access to all grades, assignments, and EOC assessments

•  Results of SRI Assessments

•  Results of all Standardized Tests

Crisp County High School parents will support their child’s learning by adhering to the Home/School Compact. Students will share responsibility for improving their academic achievement by following the Home/School Compact.

Crisp County High School will support many varied ways of parental involvement as it strives to develop and maintain an optimum learning environment for all students. Parents may contribute through volunteer programs including:

Annual Evaluation:

Crisp County High School will evaluate the success of the Family and Parent Engagement Policy annually through the following methods:

·  Feedback from parent meeting

·  Sign-in sheets for parent workshops

Revision:

The Crisp County High School Family and Parent Engagement Policy has been developed jointly with, and agreed upon, with parents of children participating in the Title I program as evidenced by meeting minutes. The school will distribute this Family and Parent Engagement Policy via website and will also be available in the CCHS Guidance Office and Parent Resource Center to all parents of participating Title I students and community stakeholders.
