FACULTY AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN CLINICAL TEACHING

The Faculty Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching will be given to a faculty member who, through long and meritorious clinical or behavioral science teaching, has left a mark of excellence and provided learners with a critical understanding of the clinical medicine.

PURPOSE

The purpose of this award is to recognize a faculty member who has demonstrated excellence in

teaching students in the clinical or behavioral sciences over an extended period of time.

DEFINITION OF EXCELLENCE IN CLINICAL TEACHING

A faculty member recognized for the Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award should be

acknowledged as a person who:

Ø  Displays expert and well-rounded knowledge of their clinical discipline

Ø  Is distinguished by an unusual gift for clinical teaching

Ø  Consistently serves as an effective and inspiring educator

Ø  Is dedicated to the technical and intellectual development of their learners

ELIGIBILITY

All current members of the faculty of the School of Medicine with a clinical teaching role are

eligible for this award; however, this award may only be conferred once upon an individual.

THE NOMINATION PACKET CONSISTS OF:

1.  Nomination letter of no more than two single-spaced, typewritten pages in 12 point font. In preparing your submission, please consider the purpose of the award and the definition of excellence in clinical teaching.

2.  Current curriculum vitae.

3.  SOM Teaching Grids for the past three years.

4.  Letter(s) of support from one or more individuals to whom the nominee reports for teaching responsibilities, if different from the nominator.

The nomination packet should be submitted via email in PDF format to the Charlene Brain in the Office of Faculty Affairs at .

REVIEW

The nomination will be reviewed by the Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award Committee. A

notification letter signed by the Dean of the School of Medicine will be sent to each nominee as recognition of his/her nomination.

AWARD

A plaque and monetary award may be given annually at the School of Medicine Faculty Awards

Ceremony.
