Workshop Description: This workshop is designed to express naturally and intuitively one’s inner feelings without the rules of composition. The class will explore the concept and learn the creative process through the following three methods:
- “Sabiwabi” composition from organic source (found in nature and dried) based on the beauty of “imperfection and impermanence”.
- “Eventful collage painting”, composed from collected paper and others of one’s choice based on a deep love of colors, textures and appeal.
- Layered collage process; composition created from layering of gold or silver color paper(s) and sheath paper glued over surface on mat board to paint the image. Mat board substrate has watercolor washes already prepared early in the class.
Students need to bring the following:
- Watercolor or sumi ink to prepare background was for two mat boards. (May use colored side for collaging)
- Collected papers and organic dried and pressed items if you have them. This white sheath paper if you have it.
- Water container and rags, old brush for acrylic glue use.
- Thin Reynolds aluminum piece, 6” x 9” =/-. Or students can bring a sheet painted with gold or silver pigment.
- Mat size: three 9” x 12” minimum; larger size will take up much time, but it is up to the student.
Instructor Brings:
- Much dried organic pieces plus collage papers, gold paper, aluminum sheets for student use.
- WC pigments and Sumi ink.
- Corn starch glue and acrylic glue if students do not have old brushes.
- Box of variety of papers for student use (please choose only if you will use for your collage).
- Gold paper to share and painted gold and silver paper for their use.
- Thin sheath papers for class use if some members do not have it.
- Printed handouts for student use.
Students can bring a bag lunch and beverage to eat during the class.
