Displaying a page on all SRK websites

If you have a page that should be posted to all SRK sites you can do this once the page has been created.

Important note: The permissions assigned to your username must include editing permissions for the site(s) you want to publish the page to. If you’re not sure you have permission to publish the page to another site, please contact or and they can sort that out if necessary.

Find the page you want to work on as detailed in the Admin overview doc.

We will use the SRK Milestones page as an example of how to do this.

Domain Access Options

First you need to indicate which sites you want this page available on. Click the Edit tab at the top of the page, then scroll down below Language and click the “Domain access options” tab on the left.

Under “Publishing options:” check “Send to all affiliates”. At least one SRK site needs to be checked under “Publish to” — the source site that this page originates from.

Source domain should be set to “Use active domain” which will display the page URL as part of the site it is added to rather than linking back to the source site for this page.

Click the Save button.

Important note: Any settings you apply to a page that you want to “Send to all affiliates” or “Publish to” multiple SRK web sites, will be applied to all instances of that page. For instance, if you check or uncheck “Published” in the Publishing options tab, the page on all SRK sites will behave the same way (published or unpublished). Similarly, adding Summary text, including a Feature image and checking “Promoted to front page” in the Publishing options tab will make this page appear on the home page of every SRK website it is published to.

There is no way to manage these settings on an individual site.

Node ID

To add a new menu link, you will need to know the “node ID” of the page. You can find this by hovering your cursor over the “Edit” tab on the page. It will show the URL in the status bar at the bottom of the browser (these elements are circled in red, in the image below.)

Note that the node id in this instance is “1530”.

Adding Links to Individual Sites

We now need to add a menu link to this page from each site that it’s been published to.

We’ll do this on each site separately by hovering over Structure in the black tool bar, then Menus > Add menu > (then the site you want) > then click “Add link”.

1. Enter the title.
2. Under “Path” enter node/nodeID, in this case enter: node/1530

3. Check the box beside “Enabled” to allow this link to be listed in the menu.

4. In the “Parent link” dropdown menu select the parent section you want this link to appear under.

Because we’re adding this link to each site individually, the list of sections and pages that appear in the Parent link menu is limited to this site.

In this example, we’ve selected <Main Menu (Africa)> / --Who We Are

Save

You can now save the page. After you’ve saved, your browser window will refresh to show where this page has been added:

In this example, we have added a link named “Milestones” to the Who We Are section of SRK Africa, which already contained an outdated page with the same title. Leave this browser window open. We’ll come back to it in a minute.

If you open 2 browser windows to this section and click each link for comparison, you’ll see which is the more current one.

You’ll also see the position of each link in the left navigation menu. The current one is at the top and the outdated one is 3rd from the top. This is the page we want to delete.

Let’s go back to the LIST LINKS window so we can manage the menu.

This window allows you to rearrange the menu order or edit or delete any pages that are listed here.

The position of pages in the LIST LINKS tab window corresponds to the position of that link on the live site.

When we compared each “Milestones” link that appeared under “Who We Are” we found that the one that was 3rd in the left navigation menu was outdated so we’re going to delete this page.

Click the delete link in the OPERATIONS column across from the page we want to remove. You’ll get a warning that this action cannot be undone. You know you clicked the delete link for the correct page, right? If you’re unsure, Cancel this operation and double-check. Once you’re confident you’ve clicked delete for the right page, click the Confirm button.

Your browser window will refresh to the LIST LINKS tab window and you’ll see that you now have only one “Milestones” menu link listed.

If you want to rearrange the link position in the menu you can do this by clicking on the crosshair () beside the link and dragging and dropping it to where you would like it to appear.

Once you’re satisfied with the menu order, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click:

Repeat for Additional Sites

Repeat this operation from Adding Links to Individual Sites on for each site you want to include a menu link on for this page.

The benefit of this method of publishing pages to all SRK websites is that editing the source page will automatically update all versions of it. So for pages like “Milestones” which should be identical across all SRK websites, this is a very efficient solution. A single page edit updates 15 different sites.
