Create the Blackboard Course Link to REEF
The REEF link in Blackboard serves two purposes. It allows your students to connect to your course directly with one click, and it allows REEF to upload grades to a column it creates in Blackboard’s gradebook any time you wish to sync the grades.
- You will be working in both REEF and Blackboard at the same time for this process.
- Open REEF and log in to your account.
- Open Blackboard and log in to your account.
- In both REEF and Blackboard, select the course you want to connect. Be sure you have selected the matching course and section numbers in both areas.
- In Blackboard, choose Course Content or your preferred content area, then Build Content, and choose Web Link.
- Name the link. We recommend REEF Polling.
- Switch to your REEF course. Click the Edit button, then select LMS Sync from the options pane.
- Click the Copy Link button. Do not highlight and copy the link to prevent any copy errors.
- Switch back to Blackboard and paste (CTRL+V) the link into the URL space. You are now finished with REEF. The remaining steps are in Blackboard only.
- Check the box for This link is to a Tool Provider.
- Select Yes for Enable Evaluation.
- Enter a point value in the space. If you are offering a maximum number of points or percentage of grade points for REEF, use that number. Otherwise, you can enter any number you choose. REEF’s column will present a weighted total of accrued points rather than actual points. Students can see actual points and the weighted grade in their REEF accounts.
- A short description like “Click once to connect your REEF account” is recommended.
- Submit when you are done.
- Students who click the link will have REEF accounts connected to Blackboard. All other students will get automatic reminder emails from REEF to click the link or their grades will not appear in Blackboard.
Best Practice:
Create the link to ensure your students are fully enrolled in your REEF course. Even if you do not wish to sync grades, the connection allows you to review student participation easily.
