Create a Free Account:

  1. Go to
  2. Click “Create Free Account” in the upper right corner and fill out your information. Click “Create My Account.”

Login and Get Started:

  1. Click “Login” in the upper right corner and enter your email address and password.
  2. Click the plus (+) sign near the top of the page to create a new webmix.

(A “webmix” is a Symbaloo term that refers

to a page of tiles!)

  1. Choose a title for your new webmix that describes the links/tiles you will include on it. Make sure that “tiles” is selected, and click “Add!”

(“Tiles”refer to the boxes that you click on to take you to a website.)

Create New Tiles:

  1. Click on any blank tile space on your new webmix to add a new link.
  2. Click “Create a Tile” to open up a drop down menu.

  1. Either type the address to the website you want to link, or open a new tab, go to the website and copy/paste the address where it says “Add the address of the website.”
  2. In the “Name the Tile” space, type the name that you want to show for your new tile. (ex: Study Island, Student Email, Cool Math Games, etc.)
  3. Choose the color of your tile. This is not super important, but you might want to organize all tiles of a certain type into one color (ex: all math tiles are blue, etc.)
  4. Now, you may choose an icon for your new tile that will be what the kids see when they visit your Symbaloowebmix.

Kick it Up a Notch… TRY THIS!

To more clearly show students which website is linked to each tile, you can use the Snip Tool to capture a screenshot of the webpage and use that as your tile icon! Here’s how:

  1. Open a new tab, and go to the website you are adding as a tile.
  2. Click the Windows “Start” button, like you’re shutting down your computer. In the search bar, type “Snip.”
  3. Click on the Snipping Tool program to open it.
  4. Your screen with get hazy, and a plus sign will appear as your cursor. Click and drag to capture the image you want for your tile.
  5. When you release the cursor, it will show you your snipped image. Save the image by clicking on the disk icon.
  6. Now, go back to Symbaloo and right click on a tile to edit it.
  7. Click “Upload Image,” then “Browse.”

  1. Choose the image you saved from the snipping tool. Then click “Upload.” It will let you select the portion of the image to fit the tile.
  2. When you’re happy with it, click “Use Selection to Tile.”

Embed Symbaloo to your School Loop page:

  1. Click “Share” at the top of the Symbaloo page.
  1. Click “Webmix Details.”
  2. On the right half, under the title “Share This Webmix,” click on “Embed Code.”
  1. Copy/paste this entire code into an email to Angela Rosheim. Describe to her SPECIFICALLY where on your website you want your Symbaloo to be embedded.

NOTE: The symbaloo is wide, so the far left tiles might not show up when it’s embedded. If you’re doing this, be sure to keep all tiles to the right side of your webmix!

QUICK REFERENCE: HOW-TO…

  • Delete a tile: Right click on the tile and choose “delete”
  • Delete a webmix: Hold your cursor over the tab at the top of the page, and next to the title, a small ‘X’ will appear. Click it!
  • Rename your webmix: Click “Options” at the top of the page. Then, click “Rename this webmix”
  • Change what appears in the center of your webmix: Click on the person in the upper right corner.
