DRONE POLICY
As a general rule, drones, also referred to as Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPAs) are not permitted at any of the sites in which Crankworx Les Gets takes place. In special cases, Crankworx will grant permission to a single RPA operator[1] to fly one aircraft during a Crankworx event provided that :
-Crankworx Les Gets organizers are not operating an RPA during the event
-RPA operator has declared his activity to the DSAC (Direction de la Sécurité de l’Aviation Civile = French Civil Aviation Authority)
-RPA pilot can provide proof of their Remote Pilot Certificate
-RPA operator has received permission from the Crankworx Les Gets management team
The below steps must be completed to obtain permission to fly an RPA at a Crankworx Les Gets venue. Please note that no aircraft, in any circumstance, is permitted to fly during the Crankworx Les Gets Slopestyle event.
- Application to Crankworx Les Gets
All RPA operators must first apply to the Crankworx Les Gets management team by submitting a detailed description of assignments :
-Goal of the assignments
-Date and place of the assignments
-A Flight Plan which abides by the following current French regulations:
A)Protection of individuals on the ground
○The flight plan will avoid unauthorized areas including airfields and airports
○A security perimeter must be set in order to keep the RPA away from the crowd
○The aircraft can fly above people only out of urban and crowded areas if it is less than 2 kg
○In urban and crowded areas, aircraft is not larger than 8 kg and the ones who are larger than 2 kg has to be captive or equipped with a parachute system
○If flying in urban areas, a clearance is obtained by the Prefecture of Haute Savoie
○If needed, the aircraft must have to be certificated by the DSAC
○The aircraft larger than 25 kg must meet additional requirements defined case by case
B)Protection of other aircrafts
○Except specific authorization, aircraft will not go higher than 150 metres (492 feet) above ground level
○Aircraft flying out of pilot’s sight will not go higher than 50 metres (164 feet) above ground level, except if it is not larger than 2 kg
○Aircraft flying out of pilot’s sight close to unauthorized areas are submitted to authorization
C)Night flight
○Aircraft can fly only in daylight, except if a special authorization has been sent to Haute-Savoie Prefecture and approved by the DSAC
D)Shoot and privacy rights
○Current regulation forbids shoot in unauthorized areas
○Privacy rights must be respected in any case. People around must be informed that the aircraft is equipped by a camera at least, and people’s information could be recorder.
- Proof of Documentation
All RPA operators must also provide to the Crankworx Les Gets management team the following documentation :
-Acknowledgment of receipt of the declaration of activity to the DSAC (within the last 12 months)
-Remote Pilot Certificate
-Insurance certification or at least the terms of the RPA operator civil liability insurance policy
-RPA certification if needed
- Documentation on site
Anyone seen using a RPA at a Crankworx Les Gets event will need to be able to present evidence of Crankworx Les Gets approval. Those who are not able to produce evidence on demand will be reported and may be evicted from the event site.

Crankworx Approval stages (internal only)
All applications will be received by Julia Sauerbronn who will trigger the following approval process :
- Crankworx Les Gets Application Approval : Benjamin Mugnier
if approved,
- CEI Approval : Jennifer Smith, Darren Kinnaird, Mark Taylor
if approved,
- Obtain acknowledgment of receipt of the declaration of activity to the DSAC (less than one year)
if obtained,
- Obtain complementary documentation about aircraft, RAP pilot and insurance
[1]RPA operator is defined as the individual or corporate body in charge of the assignment. The RPA pilot is subordinated to the RPA operator.
