If death results from job-related injury or disease, benefits may be paid to the surviving spouse, dependents or heirs. / KU would confirm that the employer/employee relationship existed; that notice was given; that the parties are covered by the workers compensation act. The accident has to be the prevailing factor for the injury and that the employee suffered an accident arising out of and in the course of employment. / Granted by state statute. Job Injury leave / Faculty & staff / Up to 6 months paid leave at regular rate of pay, minus any workers’ compensation payment. Use of sick or vacation leave not required. / Unable to perform job duties; arose out of employment; sustained as a result of shooting, stabbing or aggravated battery (KSA 21-5413); or as leave deemed in the best interests of the state. / Granted by state statute & regulations (KAR 1-9-22). Administered by KU.
KPERS Death & Disability / “Benefits eligible” faculty & staff, i.e. appointed 48% or greater to a regular position / Death benefit equal to 150% of annualized salary. Disability benefit equal to 60% of annual salary with continued mandatory retirement contributions (KBOR) or years of service credit (KPERS). / Employment in benefits-eligible position and eligible to participate in KPERS or the KBOR mandatory retirement plan. (KP&F participants have other death and disability coverage.) / Granted by state statutes regulations. Administered by Kansas Public Employee Retirement System for all eligible faculty and staff.
State Employee Health Plan (SEHP) Insurance / “Benefits eligible” faculty & staff, i.e. appointed 48% or greater to a regular position & employees who accept coverage pursuant to ACA / Medical expenses if not workers compensation qualifying. / Enrollment in the SEHP. / Granted by state statute regulations. Administered by the SEHP.
Kansas Board of Regents Student Health Insurance Program / Enrolled KU students & graduate student employees / Medical coverage; graduate student employees receive employer premium subsidy / Enrollment by eligible student in the plan. / Granted by state statute regulations. Administered bythe Kansas Board of Regents
Claims against the State (KSA 46-922) / Employees of State agency / Reimbursement of personal injury or property damage up to $1,000.00 / Damage or loss caused by negligence of KU or its employees / Granted by state statute & administered by KU with approval by State.
Shared Leave Program / KU faculty & staff appointed to regular positions for six months of continuous service with a satisfactory performance evaluation attendance record. / Donation of paid leave at the current rate of pay for employees who have no form of paid leave. / Serious, extreme or life threatening medical condition. / Granted by Kansas Board of Regents policy. Administered by KU HRM
Job-Related Death Benefit / “Benefits eligible” faculty & staff, i.e. appointed 48% or greater to a regular position eligible to participate in KPERS or the KBOR mandatory retirement plan / When death is from an on-the-job accident, spouse receives a monthly benefit based on 50% of final average salary, less Workers’ Compensation, as well as a $50,000 lump sumpayment. Children dependent parents may be eligible for a benefit if there is no living spouse. / Employment in benefits-eligible position eligible to participate in KPERS or the KBOR mandatory retirement plan. (KP&F participants also have death and disability coverage.) / Granted by state statutes regulations. Administered by Kansas Public Employee Retirement System for all eligible faculty staff.
Rosalie Lanier Gray KU Staff Assistance Fund / “Benefits eligible” KU & KUMC staff with 6 months continuous KU service, satisfactory attendance & no discipline for past 12 months. / Non-taxable charitable gift of up to $1,000.00 for one-time emergency. / Limited to $1,000.00 in any 3 year period & $3,000.00 during lifetime. / Fund managed by KU Endowment; two-campus committee supported by KU, Lawrence & KUMC HR departments.
