Courts for Kids – Application for a Court

Courts for Kids is a registered 501(c)3 charity

Are you interested in partnering with Courts for Kids to build a sports court in your community? We are eager to hear your story. We are looking for communities where a need for safe spaces for children to play has been identified from within and there is strong community ownership and involvement. We view our role as providing the extra push to assist the efforts already put forth by the community. Our method is to partner an American group with the need for a sports court. This group will raise approximately $5,000 which is typically more than half of the cost of a full sized basketball court, and will travel down to assist with the construction. We need an in-country host who will help with logistics as our goal is to provide a cross-cultural immersion experience where both groups work together to complete the project. We have resources from years of experience; however, it is important that there is a competent local contractor who will oversee the project. Please fill out the form below, email it to and we will be in touch shortly.

Please use as much space, or extra sheets of paper as possible.

Thank you!

Role/Relationship within the community and how long you will be there for:

Section 1: Community Information

  • Community name, location, and nearest airport. Please include google coordinates, if possible (go to google maps, right click on the correct location on the map, select ‘what’s here,’ and copy the coordinates that show up in the search bar).
  • Please describe in some detail the community where the court will be built. For example, demographics, brief history, pressing needs, etc. If you can, please send pictures of the community and area where the court will be built.
  • Please describe what other options local children have to play sports, who this court will benefit and how it will be used.
  • What sport(s) would you like the court built for? Will the court serve any other function within the community?

Section 2: Community Contribution.

It is important to us that this project is a genuine partnership between the US group and the local community. We contribute $5,000 as well as fiber mesh and volunteer labor. In order for the project to be a success, there needs to be ownership in the project from the community. Please demonstrate the involvement of the community in the following areas:

  • Please list all key community stakeholders who have been consulted for this project, their role in the community, their potential role in this project and a contact phone number.
  • What, if any, committees will be managing this project?
  • How will the community cover the remaining costs (eg, donated materials, fundraising efforts, etc.See our ‘best practices list’ for ideas)? Be as specific as possible.

Section 3: Court Location

  • Please briefly describe the location of the court.
  • Who owns the land?
  • How much prep work will need to be done to get the land ready?
  • Will there be any restrictions on the use of this court? (will it be locked up at night, limited hours, etc.)
  • Who would be responsible for overseeing the court once it is finished?

Section 4: Trip logistics.

The average US group size is 16-25 and they need to stay within the community as this helps facilitate cross-cultural understanding. They cover their own costs but need an in-community host to facilitate the logistics. Please answer the following questions related to trip logistics:

  • Who would be responsible for hosting our group?
  • Please give an estimate for private transportation to/from the airport (public transportation is not allowed per Courts for Kids policy). If additional transportation is needed, please provide quotes for that as well.
  • Please give a few lodging options within the community (community centers, home stays, empty houses, churches, etc.) and include any costs. Our groups are prepared to ‘rough-it’ (bucket baths, mattresses on floor, etc.)
  • Please give an estimate of food and water costs per person per day (we normally have community members prepare local food).
  • Our group would like to learn about and experience the local culture, especially in the evenings and while the court is drying. Would there be some other activities that our group could participate in that would help us to learn about your community and foster stronger connections? (For example, in the past we have learned traditional dances, met with elders, played games, toured local businesses, gone to worship services, and learned to cook local specialties).
  • We also like to take a day trip to experience the local beauty of a place. Please provide a few options with associated costs (eg: beaches, waterfalls, swimming holes, zip lining, hiking, ruins, etc.)

Section 5: Court Bid.

Please provide 1-3 bids (using our Courts for Kids bid sheet) of the total projected cost of the court from a reputable local construction company, including materials purchased locally as well as labor (Our team and your community members will be providing volunteer, unpaid, manual labor, but we will need to hire a few skilled laborers). Please only use bagged cement as we do not allow the use of pre-mixed concrete. You can email the bid(s) to .
