ThiscoursehashistoricallybeentaughtasasurveyoftheHumanitiesinWesternculture,beginningwiththeRenaissance.Typically,instructorsbeginwithsomebackgroundonclassicalGreekandRomanartandphilosophyaswellasabriefoverviewoftheMiddleAgesinEurope.Thefivecenturiescoveredinthecourseareusuallydividedintofoureras:theRenaissance;theBaroque(AgeofReasonandEnlightenment);19thcentury;20thand21stcenturies.Abriefoverviewofnon-Westernevents/progresscanbepartofeacharea’sdiscussion.Instructorsmaychoosetoemphasizemorenon-Westernmaterialifdesired.
