COURSE TITLE: Physical Education III & IV CO-ED 2004-05

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Students continue the development of positive attitudes toward physical fitness through participation in team sports and various forms of athletics. Previously learned basic skills are reviewed. The students participate in flag football, speedball, softball, floor hockey, basketball, volleyball, swimming and various water activities and weight training.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS - REQUIRED MATERIALS

1.Uniform -PE shirt,PE shorts, gym shoes, white socks. Sweat suits may be worn and are

to consist of St. Viator sweatpants and any solid sweatshirt.

2. School issued combination lock

3. Towel

4. Swim suit and cap

COURSE OBJECTIVES / STUDENT OUTCOMES:

Social interaction with other students will contribute to the student’s growth in a positive manner. This will be facilitated through a strong emphasis on teamwork and sportsmanship. The student will be able to show his ability to perform basic tasks in accordance with each unit of study.

COURSE EXPECTATIONS – PE STAFF

  1. Required Materials
  1. Proper St. Viator uniform
  2. School issued lock
  3. Towel
  4. Swim suit and cap
  1. Classroom policy and procedures
  1. Students are required:
  • To be in class on time, inside gym by the 5 minute passing bell, dressed in uniform in gym 3 minutes later.
  • To be properly dressed
  • To show good sportsmanship in team play.
  1. Students are not allowed to:
  • Chew gum in class
  • NO PROFANITY – THIS IS YOUR ONLY WARNING, VIOLATIONS WILL RESULT IN DETENTION.
  • Wear other student’s PE cloths to class
  • YOU WILL NOT USE EQUIPMENT UNTIL TOLD TO DO SO!!
  1. PE make-ups
  • Make up work is at the discretion of the teacher. Unexcused absent are minus 4 points for the day.
  1. Locker and locker room Policy

Only regulation school locks may be used. If you lose your lock you must purchase a new one in the bookstore. There is to be no playing around in the locker room. Students should make sure that the lock is securely fastened to the locker. All books and uniforms and personal belongings should be locked up as well. Any items left out will be put in the PE office and can be picked up at the end of the class, along with a detention.

3. Evaluation / grades

  1. Students will be evaluated on their:
  • Ability to learn the skills taught in class and to apply those skills in the activity we are participating in.
  • Ability to work together with their peers, i.e. teamwork and sportsmanship.
  • Great emphasis will be given to effort and not ability level.
  • Physical fitness testing

B.Students will be graded based on the following:

  • Students will be graded daily using the grading rubric provided – see attached rubric grading sheet.
  • Great emphasis is placed on effort

4. Attendance / Absence

  1. Students are required to be in class 8 minutes after the passing bell.
  2. No students will be excused from participating in physical education class while his/her sport is in season. On days of games, the student must dress for gym, but their activity may be modified.
  3. Medical and excuse notes:
  • All notes must be in class the day of the excuse.
  • No student will be excused from PE for more than two days without a Doctor’s note.
  • Each day excused from the swimming unit will require a make-up for each day missed.
