Course Description

This course is designed to provide the student with an appreciation of the outdoors and physical activities in an outdoor setting. Topics such as camping, hiking, orienteering, survival skills, angling, archery, cooking, boating safety, outdoor games, and hunter safety are learned.

ABSENCES :
  1. ONLY a doctor’s note excuses a student from having to participate in class. Make-up work for days absent is required. IT IS THE STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY TO TALK WITH HIS/HER TEACHER ABOUT ARRANGING A TIME TO OBTAIN/COMPLETE MAKE-UP WORK.
  2. MAKE UP WORK IS DUE 5 DAYS FROM THE DATE OF THE ABSENCE.
  3. EXTENDED MEDICAL EXCUSES : Any student with an extended medical excuse from a doctor (more than 10days) will be evaluated. The teachers will determine the appropriate means for making up physical activity during the illness or injury, and the recovery process..
  4. Students must respect school equipment and follow school rules and policies.
/ ACTIVITES :
Students will be participating in outdoor education activites each day, and adding various other activities of fitness throughout this course. Please prepare for the class by eating a healthy breakfast, drinking plenty of water, and wearing appropriate clothing to class.
  1. Fitnessgram Testing – state required fitness test.
  2. Outdoor Ed activities such as but not limited to hiking, camping, cooking outdoors, survival skills, orienteering, videos on hunting and fishing, intro to archery, and horseshoes
  3. Walking – learning to walk for fitness, using the campus to hike trails etc.
  4. Class Project – Students must spend at least 10 hours out of class time on a project about an Outdoor Ed topic of their choice.
