COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course 1 PE is a one year course which will introduce freshmen students to individual and dual sport activities that promote healthy fitness habits for lifetime recreation. Skill development, understanding of rules, teamwork, and good sportsmanship are all vital aspects of our PE program. Students will prepare for state Fitness Gram testing.

COURSE 1 ACTIVITIES (Freshmen PE)

Activities in course 1 include: tennis, pickleball, track and field, Frisbee golf, swimming, badminton, bicycling, physical fitness, fitness lab exercise, and other activities. In preparation for state Fitness Gram testing, students will do fitness testing every week.

COURSE MATERIALS and REQUIREMENTS

Each student will need a PVHS PE uniform and proper tennis shoes. Students may purchase a PE uniform from the school business office and must dress out in uniform every day. They must also purchase a lock for their PE locker. Students are expected to participate in all activities unless restricted by a doctor’s note for medical reasons. Pay for the PE uniform in the business office and bring receipt to class to receive clothing.

Shorts- $12; T-shirt - $8; Sweat pants- $14

GRADING POLICY

A. Grading scale B. Grade is based on

90 - 100% = A 1. Class participation (activities) 25%

70 - 79% = C 3. Unit grades 10%

DRESS POLICY

Students must dress out every day. If students forget their uniform, they can borrow a uniform from the coaches’ office with a school I.D. card. This will result in a loss of points for the day and possible detention. Not dressing out results in a “0” for the day and detention. Multiple loaners or non-dresses will result in a parent conference and referral.

TARDY POLICY

Due to our campus tardy policy students may be dropped from class after their sixth tardy. The first three tardies will result in detention with the teacher. On the fourth and fifth tardy, the student will be sent to the office with a referral and will be assigned detention by the assistant principal. After the sixth tardy, student will be dropped from class and placed in study hall.

MAKE UP WORK

Students can make up absences, tardies, non-dresses, loaners, and other missing assignments by making arrangements with the teacher. This is the student’s responsibility. Because of the nature of PE, make ups must include physical activity. Walking laps, or another similar agreed-upon activity, make up absences, non-dresses, or missed activity. Amount of activity to be determined by teacher. Fitness tests are made up during class time.
