Course Description: Welding 1: The Principles of Weldments.
Students will be using the text: Welding principles and Applications sixth ed. Jeffus, Larry. Along with the lab manual to accompany the text. We will cover these basic chapters, lab welds included in the text, along with additional information useful in FFA Career Development Events, or CDE’s
Chapter 1 Intoduction to Welding
Chapter 2 Safety in Welding
Chapter 3 Shielded Metal Arc Equipment, Setup and Operation.
Chapter 4 Shielded Metal Arc Welding of Plate.
Chapter 5 Shielded metal Arc Welding of Pipe
Chapter 6 Advanced Shielded Metal Arc Welding.
Chapter 10 Gas Metal Arc Welding Equipment, Setup, and Operation.
Chapter 11 Gas Metal Arc Welding
Chapter 7 Oxyfuel Cutting and Gouging
Chapter 8 Plasma Arc Cutting
Chapter 28 Oxyfuel Welding and Cutting Equipment Setup and Operation
Chapter 29 Oxyfuel Gasses and Filler Metals.
Chapter 30 Oxyacetylene Welding
Chapter 31 Soldering, Brazing, and Braze Welding
Activities: Students will be responsible for defining the terms, and answering all parts of the Self Evaluation for each chapter, and completing Labs. Clean up and wearing the appropriate safety protection is also worth 30% of your grade. Late work will be assessed accordingly. 10% for each day late. After the assignment has been given. Copying or cheating will result in a 0% grade for that Lab or assignment.

Grading: will follow the LPGE Criteria for assessment.

Safety: Students will be provided Safety training for shop or lab related activities. Safety assessments or tests will be kept on file, and students must pass safety tests before operating equipment in the shop/ Lab area.
Participation: Lab points will be acquired through completing lab assignments, participation and clean up duties. Those who choose not to do these skills will not receive points for the day.
Attendance: You are required to be in class when the bell/ and or clock is on time for the bell system. Anyone late will receive a tardy for being late. You are responsible to obtain missing assignments, class notes, and Tests. Absences will be handled within the guidelines of the LPGE school student Handbook.
Dress code: Students are responsible for coming to class wearing the appropriate clothing for the working environment. Students will follow LPGE dress codes as well as:
Wearing shoes that cover the whole foot, no slippers or sandals in the shop/ Lab area.
Wearing and keeping safety glasses that the instructor provides. If you loose them, you will need to purchase a new pair for your use prior to entering the shop/Lab area.
Behavior: Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated in the shop. Fighting, suspected or confirmed stealing, Creating dangerous situations, Etc. Anyone responsible for creating these situations will be removed from the shop/ Lab area for the appropriate amount of time to learn from the behavior.
