Course Syllabus: Algebra 2 (1.5 Semester class)

Teacher: Sheena Wright

School: South Greene High School

Prerequisite: Algebra 1

Course Description:This course is designed to build on algebraic and geometric concepts. It develops advanced algebra skills such as systems of equations, advanced polynomials, imaginary and complex numbers, quadratics, and concepts and includes the study of trigonometric functions. The textbook used is Prentice Hall Algebra 2, chapters 4-7, 9-11, and 13.

Class Objectives: Following successful completion of this Algebra course, students will have the concepts and skills necessary to advance to the next level math class, plus better prepare themselves for the ACT test.

Materials needed:

Pencil

Binder with 4 tab dividers

Paper

TI 83 plus or TI 84 plus calculator

*note calculators will be provided by the school for in class use ONLY

Grading Procedure:

The semester grade received with be calculated as follows: 1st nine-week average will comprise 40%, midterm will comprise 10%, 2nd nine-week average will comprise 40%, and the State Test will comprise 10%. The nine-week grade will be calculated as follows: homework will comprise 30%, quiz average will comprise 25%, and test average will comprise 45%. If a student fails to turn in homework when it is due OR has a failing average due to tests/quizzes, the student will be required to stay in after school tutoring with Mrs. Wright. Note: Since Algebra 2 builds from chapter to chapter, there are deadlines throughout the semester for makeup work.

Grading Scale:

A = 93-100

B = 85-92

C = 75-84

D = 70-74

F = 0-69

Major Assignments: Homework Packets will be given with every chapter and turned in the day before the test.
