CLASS PROCEDURE: After our mandatory orientation meeting in LC200C in the Math Lab, all instruction will be delivered online. You will be following the schedule included on the last page of this syllabus. You will be asked to read sections of the book and work the homework problems online for each section using the MyMathLab tutorial software. You can also participate in online discussions and chat.
COURSE MATERIAL: We will cover almost all sections of the text from Chapters 1 through 7.
I have attached a schedule that you can follow so that you do not get behind in the course material. You need to stay current with the sections or you won’t be ready for the on-campus exams at the appropriate time.
HOMEWORK: Homework will be assigned weekly. You can go online to MyMathLab at any time and see what is expected of you. Always go to “DO HOMEWORK” to work the Homework part of the class. The “Homework Assigned by my Instructor “ is worth 30% of your final grade.. You need to do homework assignments online for EACH section of the text. I have chosen the topics and type of problems for each section. You can do each homework assignment unlimited times . This is the beauty of an online math tutorial program. You can practice till you get it perfect!
ON CAMPUS EXAMS: I will give 4 on -campus exams and a cumulative Final that usually last for 2 hours, covering the material as indicated on the attached schedule. Each exam is worth 14% of your final grade. All the exams are given on Thursdays from 7 - 9 pm in MA108 (except the Final that goes from 7 -10 pm in MA108). The exam dates are: February 15, March 15, April 19, May 17 and May 24 (Final exam). These are the only times that you will have to do work on a specific date. A make-up test may be considered only if you have notified me of your difficulties prior to test time.
I have sample tests for you to practice under CHAPTER CONTENTS.

All exams are given on Thursdays from 7-9pm in MA107
(Final exam is 7-10pm)
Students must bring a driver’s license or other official picture ID before they can receive an exam to work. I will be matching names and faces for EACH student.
Exam 1: (Chapter 1 – Chapter 2.3) February 15
Exam 2: (Chapter 2.4-2.7, 3 and 4.1-4.3) March 15 all in MA108
7 - 9pm
Exam 3(Chapter 4.4 – 4.6, and 5) April 19
Exam 4: ( Chapters 6 and 7) May 17
CUMULATIVE Final exam May 24 7 – 10 pm
EXTRA CREDIT OPTIONS:
REVIEW SESSIONS AND DISCUSSION BOARD: Students who attend all 4 of the review sessions on campus and participate in at least 3 discussion board Forums, get an extra 2% added to their final average.
MATH LAB ATTENDANCE:
If you do 30 hours or more in the DVC Math Lab (be sure to sign in on STARS system) you can get an additional 2%.
FINAL GRADES:
Online Homework 30% of final grade
4 on-campus exams 56% of final grade
Cumulative Final exam 14% of final grade
The grading scale applied to your final average (plus Extra Credit) will be as follows:
91%-100% A; 71%-80% C; Below 61% F
81%-90% B; 61%-70% D; .
Here is how to calculate your final percent:
.30(online HOMEWORK average)+ .70(campus exam average)
The extra credit 5% is added at the end if you get more than 80% on the online Tests and an extra 2% for Review session attendance and Discussion Board Forums.
WHERE TO GET HELP: . We have excellent tutors in the Math Lab who can provide assistance. The Math Lab is open every Mon thru Thurs from 8 am till 10pm. It is open Fridays from 8 am till 4pm and most weekends from 12 noon till 5pm.

REVIEW SESSIONS
I will be giving Review sessions BEFORE each on-campus exam in the DVC math building. The Review sessions will be announced on the MML program. Tentative dates are Tuesdays: Feb 13, Mar 13, Apr 17 and May 15. Times to be announced
ADDING and DROPPING:
It is your responsibility to officially drop if you choose not to complete the class. I do reserve the right to drop any student who does not attend a mandatory orientation meeting on January 21 or 29 or who neglects to complete more than two chapter homework assignments by the specified due dates. However, DO NOT RELY ON ME TO DROP YOU FROM THE CLASS. If you neglect to submit a drop form to the Admission Office, you may receive an”F” grade at the end of the semester.
February 12 is the last day to withdraw without a W and the last day student may take CR/NC option.
April 27 is the last day to withdraw without an F.
HONOR POLICY: It is expected that each student will do his or her OWN work on all graded homework, tests and exams. You must do your own work while on the computer. It is considered cheating to give your course code to another person and let them do your work. It is also your responsibility to ensure that other students are not copying from you. Any student found violating this policy will receive a 0 on the assignment, exam, or final, in question. In addition, any student found cheating may be assigned an F final grade and/or reported to the Dean of Instruction for further action.
