Objectives / : / 1.  To introduce the quantitative analysis approach.
2.  To apply quantitative analysis in modeling and solving decision-making problems.
3.  To use software to aid decision-making.
Synopsis / : / This course presents the principles and techniques for solving decision-making problems in the industry using mathematical models. The techniques include decision analysis, linear programming, transportation model, assignment model, network model, and forecasting. The course emphasizes the process of model development and solution analysis.

By the end of the course, students should be able to:

Topic 1 : Introduction to Quantitative Analysis

1.  define and clarify some of the terminology used in quantitative analysis
2.  explain the stages in quantitative analysis
3.  identify the problems that can be solved using quantitative methods

Topic 2 : Decision Theory

1.  formulate a decision-making problem
2.  develop the use of probability in decision making
3.  apply the method of depicting a series of decisions and outcomes by decision trees
4.  use computer to perform quantitative analysis
Topic 3 : Linear Programming Model (LP)
1.  formulate the problems into mathematical model
2.  apply the quantitative methods (graphical method and simplex method) for maximization and minimization problems
3.  use computer to perform quantitative analysis

Topic 4 : Transportation and Assignment Model

1.  formulate the transportation and assignment problems
2.  apply the transportation simplex and Hungarian methods
3.  use computer to perform quantitative analysis

Topic 5 : Network Model

1.  define the concept of network analysis
2.  develop the network diagram
3.  perform network analysis
4.  use computer to perform quantitative analysis
Topic 6 : Forecasting
1.  identify different types of forecast
2.  measure forecast accuracy
3.  apply time-series forecasting models
