Course Objectives
Week 1 – Computer Basics and Internet Basics
1. The goal of this week to teach students the basic parts and functions of a personal computer.
2. Students will understand the basics of the internet and email.
3. Students can expect to learn the differences between operating systems, hardware/software, and internet browsers/servers.
4. Students will develop a working vocabulary of computer terms
5. Students will be able to effectively operate and navigate the basic controls and functions of their computer.
Week 2 – Microsoft Word
1. The goal of this week to teach students the basic functions and components of Microsoft Word.
2. Students will understand and apply the basics of MS Word.
3. Students will create and save different documents using MS Word.
4. Students will demonstrate a working knowledge of MS Word.
5. Students will produce professional documents (resume, flyer, newsletter, etc) using MS Word and MS Word Templates.
Week 3 – Microsoft PowerPoint
1. The goal of this week to teach students the basic functions and components of Microsoft PowerPoint.
2. Students will understand and apply the basics of MS PowerPoint.
3. Students will create and save different presentations using MS PowerPoint.
4. Students will demonstrate a working knowledge of MS PowerPoint.
5. Students will produce and critique polished presentations.
Week 4 – Microsoft Excel
1. The goal of this week to teach students the basic functions and components of Microsoft Excel.
2. Students will understand and apply the basics of MS Excel.
3. Students will create and save different worksheets using MS Excel.
4. Students will demonstrate a working knowledge of MS Excel.
5. Students will produce functional data lists and spreadsheets.
Week 5 – HTML and Microsoft Publisher
1. The goal of this week to teach students the basic functions and components of HTML and Microsoft Publisher.
2. Students will understand and apply the basic codes of HTML and templates of MS Publisher.
3. Students will create a functional website using HTML code and relevant publication using MS Publisher.
4. Students will demonstrate a working knowledge of HTML and MS Publisher.
Week 6 – Final Projects
1. The goal of this week is for students to demonstrate and integrate all of the programs and concepts they have learned.
2. Students will convert projects from one program to another.
3. Students will create a more in-depth website.
4. Students will reflect on their learning and consider steps ahead.
