COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The understanding Business and Personal Law program is an introductory course to the law, placing special emphasis on personal law. The class captures the law in a practical, straightforward manner. Connection to real-world situations help students understand the relevance and importance of the issues presented. Personal law topics target legal issues that will affect, or have affected, the lives of students. Illustrations of the major functions, procedures, and substance of law help to develop critical thinking and legal problem-solving skills. Broad coverage, flexible organization, and inclusion of up-to-date, teachable cases will be studied.

METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:

This course will be built on student reading and response, teacher overview lectures, class discussions. The classroom discussions will be designed to focus on the specific areas of study pertaining to the law. Students will complete several case studies related to the law.

WORK REQUIRED BY THE STUDENT:

Students will be expected to do end of the chapter questions, quizzes, case studies and tests.

EVALUATION OF STUDENT PROGRESS:

Students will be evaluated on their ability to define, describe, illustrate, explain, integrate, and measure key elements of the course material. Students will also be evaluated on their ability to generalize new and prior knowledge into new learning situations.
