Course description: Welcome to Biology! In this class we will explore the exciting living world around us. We will use a variety of teaching tools, including technology, labs, projects, and homework,, to facilitate our learning process. Together we will foster a productive classroom by creating a positive learning environment in which we treat each other with respect.

Grading Policy: The aim of this course is to prepare you for the EOC Biology exam at the end of the year. Therefore, a majority of your class grade will come from assessments (tests and quizzes)

Classroom policies:
- If you are tardy to class, you will not be permitted to enter the classroom until you receive a pass.
- No gum in class. Cell phones are permitted for school work only: if they are seen being used for other purposes in class you will be asked to put it away. If you are not in compliance the phone will be confiscated. You are responsible for your electronics.
- Sleeping or laying heads on the desk is NOT permitted during class. If you are sick I will write you a pass to the nurse.
- Only one student is allowed to be out of the classroom at any time. Bathroom passes are to be used for emergencies only. When in the hallway, you must keep your pass on you at all times.
- Adhere to 15:15 Rule and stay appropriate areas.
- If you are absent, there will be copies of all assignments and notes in the absent bin or on my website. ask if you cannot find an assignment. You are responsible for any assignments missed, whether the absence is excused or unexcused. If you are absent for a lab or an assessment, you must contact me immediately via email or verbally to schedule a make-up.
- Seating arrangements will be assigned every nine weeks. However, the teacher reserves the right to change any students’ seat at any point in time depending on behavior and productivity levels.
Consequences:
Failing to adhere to expectations, policies, or procedures will be handled in a variety of ways including, but not limited to: verbal warning, seat change, phone call or email home, teacher detention, referral to Assistant Principal. Rewards:
Learning is your number one reward you give yourself. Passing your end of year exam is a great reward. Following all expectations, policies and procedures will be rewarded with various incentives including, but not limited to: Verbal praise, Positiveemail home, Wild Cat of the Week nominations, and Excellent Grades.
This class has an end of year exam. This year the Biology End of Year Exam (EOC) will be given to all students enrolled in Pre-Aice Biology, Pre-IB Biology, Biology 1 Regular and Biology 1 Honors. All questions are multiple choices.
The EOC will be worth 30% of the TOTAL Biology 1 Course grade.
Attendance:
If you are absent a note to the office is required. For each day absent with an excused note, you will be given two days to make up missed work. The note is brought to student services. You will receive full credit with an excused absence.
I take late work for50%of the grade. It must be handed in within 2 Days of the original due date for credit.
Tutoring Hours: NHS after school- check with guidance or NHS for the day of the week
The greatest assistance students can find is regular attendance and a positive attitude. This combination will dramatically improve the ability to master the skills of this course.
