Course Description
Expectations:
All students are expected to perform to the best of their ability on all assignments and activities. Science includes a vast amount of material, so you must put forth your best effort at all times. The best way to do this is to be involved in class, complete all homework and assigned projects, and review/study regularly.
DO YOUR BEST!
Materials Needed:
· One 1-inch binder (with pockets) OR a designated section in a Large Binder
· 3-hole punched pocket folder
· 1 Composition Notebook
· Notebook Paper & Pencils
Assignments:
· Blast Off: daily review (to be maintained in a composition notebook-“Science Journals”)-checked for completion
· Daily Classwork: includes discussion, independent and group assignments, instructional games, role-playing, quizzes, current events, and other activities
· Science Lab Activities: various labs and/or hands-on activities
· Science Binder: vocabulary, notes, writing topics, labs, etc. will be maintained in the binder
· “Study Island” Assignments: to be completed at home online throughout the year
· Homework: homework should be complete and demonstrate your best effort
· Tests: given at the end of a chapter or unit
· Projects: one outside project during each quarter (specific instructions TBA)
Grading Policy:
Tests/Projects 45%
Labs/Daily Classwork 20%
Quizzes 30%
Homework 5%
Missing Work:
If an assignment is not turned in, the “missing” code (mi) will appear in the Power School gradebook. A score of “0” will be recorded until the missing assignment is completed and turned in. **If a zero is recorded in the gradebook for an assignment you believe you turned in, check the “No Name” drawer…it may be in there!!
Redo/Correcting Work:
Please refer to SFMS Retake Policy.
Absences:
It is very important for students to be at school each day. There are many labs, activities, and discussions that cannot be made up. However, in the event you must be absent, it is the child’s responsibility to check the “Absent” binder and ask questions about material/notes missed. You will have one day per day absent to make-up any work. It is a good idea to have the phone number of a classmate that you can contact when absent and copy notes from when necessary. Any graded assignments missed during an absence will be made up in “Academic Support,” and not during class.
------
When you first enter the classroom:
