Learning Objectives for Calculus I:
(1) deep familiarity with the standard linear, polynomial, rational, algebraic, and transcendental functions with respect to their critical behavior, regions of increase and decrease, and concavity properties; (2) a deep understanding (both conceptual and computational) of the idea of a limit; (3) the technical skills necessary to understand, interpret, and compute the derivative as a rate of change, as a linear approximation, and as a tool for optimization problems; (4) the ability to compute simple anti-derivatives and interpret the difference in values of such as an area; (5) the ability to state and prove results about limits, derivatives, mean values, and the fundamental theorem of calculus.

Grading Scale Method of Evaluation
90% - 100%A At least 3 Tests 70% of final grade
80% - 89% BCumulative Final Exam: 30% of final grade
70% - 79% C
60% - 69% D
0 % - 59% F
Make-Up Policy:
With the possible exception of the 3rd test, no makeup tests will be given. If a test is missed, the Final Exam grade will be substituted for the missed test. You will receive a grade of zero on your second missed test.
Calculator Policy: Students must have a TI-83 plus or a TI-89 graphing calculator and bring it to every class session. If you plan to go on to a higher math course, a TI-89 is the best choice. The TI-83 plus may be purchased on E-bay for around $40. No calculators will be allowed on tests.
Attendance Policy: Attendance insures that you get notes which will help you learn the material being covered and allows you to learn from questions being asked and answered in class. Leaving early and arriving late count as a ½ class period absence. Three or more absences could result in a lower or failing grade.
