CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR

1.  BE PRESENT!! The most important ingredient for success is to be present and attentive in class every day.

We will be attentive to this and will be calling home when we see a pattern of absences.

2.  Be on Time!

3.  Be Prepared: students should have their book, their notebook, a pencil, and a scientific calculator with them at all times.

A scientific calculator (such as a TI30 series, a TI explorer, or a Casio fx – 300w)

will be needed. The cost for such a calculator is approximately $10.

4.  Active class participation is essential. Learning is something only you can do; you will get out of this course according to how much you choose to put into the process.

The time which we allot to do group work is to be used wisely.

HOMEWORK & NOTEBOOK

1. Homework/classwork will be assigned almost every day. Please recognize that practice is essential if you wish to succeed. (Practice yields progress! ) This work will usually be checked and sometimes graded.

After first having introduced a section, we will assign a checked homework. These will be checked for completion (on a random basis). Checked homework will be gone over in class and any questions you might have will be addressed at this time (if you ask them!).

After having gone over the checked homework, graded homework will usually be assigned on the same material. We will provide little to no help on these assignments since they are the same as the material that we just reviewed in the checked assignment.

2. Notebooks/Folders are essential for your organization! At the beginning of each class, put the date in the left hand margin. All homework should be put in your notebook unless otherwise instructed. Each homework assignment must have the page number and problem numbers as its heading. Key notes should be highlighted! You will often be asked to refer back to your notes to check on critical steps of a process.

TESTS & QUIZZES & PROJECTS

1. Quizzes will be announced. If you are absent for an announced quiz, you will make it up under the same guidelines as listed for making up tests (see below).

2. Tests will always be announced.

3. Projects will be assigned at the end of major units. Assessments will be done using a

rubric given ahead of time.

4. Grades will be calculated based on the following:

Makeup Policy: You are to be responsible for the material you've missed!

Please ask the teacher or your classmate ( "Ask 3, then me") what had been done while you were absent. Also, make use of our websites at the E.H.S. website where assignments will be posted.

If you know you will be absent, it would be to your advantage to work on the assignments while you are gone.

I) If you are absent one day - the day of the scheduled test/ quiz/ assignment - count on completing it either the day you return or the following day (at the teacher's discretion)

II) If you are absent multiple days, you will be given an equivalent number of days to make up the work/exams (this includes any subsequent days that you may not be in class).

III) If you fail to adhere to the above, you will be penalized as follows:

One day past deadline - 90% of your score

Two days past deadline - 80% of your score

Three days past deadline - 70% of your score

Four days past deadline - 60% of your score

Five or more days past deadline - 50% of your score... unless the end of the quarter arrives in which case you receive a "0".

EXTRA HELP AVAILABILITY

See one of your teachers for extra help when you perceive that it is necessary. Don't wait until you are entirely overwhelmed. We will work with you.

Take advantage of the math “extra help” room when you are able.

I will be available Period 3, Period 7, before, or after school for extra help. Please make sure you let me know you are coming.
