Countdown to Convocation – Sunday, May 14, Union South
Cooper Hall Open House 9:30 – 11:00 am, Convocation 12:30 pm, Reception following 2:00 – 3:30 pm
The School of Nursing Convocation event will arrive before you know it. This memo provides information for this special day’s celebration.We ask that you arrive at Union South on time and follow the directions below. Staff and faculty will be there to assist you.
Convocation Ceremony– Varsity Hall
Guests are required to have a ticket to enter. Doors will open at noon. Dean Scott, graduates, and faculty will begin the processional promptly at 12:30 pm. We ask that your guests be seated prior to that time. Other than a reserved area for graduates and a handicap designated section, the event is general admission, no designated seating, but a ticket is required.
Please note that Dean Scott and faculty will be available, following Convocation, for individual photographs. We ask that you please hold your photos until the end of the ceremony.
Graduation Staging Area – Marquee Theater
Coat room: The Sift Winnow Meeting Room is available for coats and other items. While the room will be secured during the ceremony, it is suggested you do not leave valuables in the room. Twenty minutes following the ceremony, the room will no longer be secured and items should be removed prior to attending the reception.
Check in: begins at noon. All students must check in at the registration table located between Varsity Hall and the Marquee Theater to pick up your name card. You will then proceed into Marquee Hall.
Name cards: Name cards are placed in alphabetical order on the registration tables in the lobby. These cards are used to introduce you as you cross the stage to be congratulated by Dean Scott. To assure that your name is pronounced correctly, please take a minute at the registration table to phonetically print your name on the card, if you think this will help the reader. Keep the card – you will present it to the reader as you approach the stage.
Student line up: Following check in, you are asked to be seatedin the Marquee Theater by 12:10 pm. In the theater you will receive general instructions and, at approximately 12:15 pm, you will be lined up for the processionalinto Varsity Hall.
Graduation attire: You are not required to wear your cap and gown to the School of Nursing Convocation, but you are welcome to do so if desired. If you are not wearing your gown, please remember the business-professional dress is suggested. You will be up on a stage and need to walk up and down steps, so please keep that in mind when determining shoes and length of dresses and skirts.
Graduation tassel: Having already graduated, it is appropriate to wear your tassel on the left side.
Reception – Union South Terrace
A reception (light hors d’oeuvres and cake) will follow Convocation for graduates and your guests. Tickets are NOT required. The reception continues until 3:30 pm.
Special Open House for Graduates & Guests
We want to offer you an opportunity to show off the new Cooper Hall to your family and guests. Cooper Hall will be open for tours before the Convocation Ceremony, from 9:30 – 11:00 am. It’s a great place to take pictures of this special day and an opportunity to share a cup of coffee and a breakfast pastry with family and friends.
Parking
Union South, lot 80, has limited parking and is a ticketed (fee charged) ramp. Approximately 2 blocks from Union South is the Engineering Drive Ramp, lot 17. There will be no charge to park in the ramp.
Cooper Hall visitors should park in the free, surface lot 60 at Marsh & Walnut. Guests should not park behind Cooper Hall in lot 85; it is a permit only lot.
