COURSE OBJECTIVE: An orientation to college and for students to be able to plan their academic career (through an educational plan) and be able to utilize relevant campus resources.

Cell Phone Policy

Please be mindful of your classmates and the potential distraction that your cell phone may pose in the classroom. If you need to use the phone (call or TEXT) please step outside of the classroom. It is your responsibility to see what content you miss.

Absence Policy

More than two absences may result in exclusion or “no credit” in the course. Students are allowed to miss a maximum of 2 classes without documentation (doctors note etc.) Please consult with the instructor prior to any planned absences or immediately after one unplanned absence.

Plagiarism and Student Conduct:

When you incorporate those words and ideas into your own work, you must give credit where credit is due. Plagiarism, intentional or unintentional, is considered academic dishonesty and is not tolerated. Anyone found to be plagiarizing or cheating on assignments (e.g. copying or giving answers, using ‘crib’ sheets, etc.) will (1) receive a zero (fail) on the assignment, and (2) be referred to the Vice President of Students Services for further disciplinary action, following due process. Transfer Requirements: UC vs. CSU; Discussion on Accreditation (collegesource.org); Begin discussion on educational

planning.

Week4 (10/5/16):

Introduction to assist.org, csumentor.edu, universityofcalifornia.edu, and the application process.Educational Planning Structure & Format.

Week 5 (10/12/16):

Library Visit; an introduction to academic research and resources. Print out assist.org report.

Career Transfer/Center Visit - Academic Resources; Becoming “transfer-ready”/degree ready. Print Eurka.org report.

Week 7 (10/26/16):

Success strategies: study habits; learning styles; note-taking; time management/organizational skills

Success Strategies cont.: Learning how to think critically; Text vs. subtext; Analytical writing

Week 8 (11/2/16):

Financial Aid topics: Grants; Scholarships; Loans; Federal Work-Study; Guest Speaker. First semester 101powerpoint/lecture.

Week 9 (11/9/16):

Review for the final & Educational Plan Q&A

Week 10 (11/16/16):

Educational Plans Due(no late plans, no exceptions); Final Exam on Campus Resources
