Counseling and Educational Psychology Trentham Travel Award *

Step 1

After you return from your trip, complete the award application and attach your original receipts to the form (hotel, airplane, rental car, etc). The funds will be reported to the Indiana University Office of Student Financial Assistance where they are “packaged” with any funding that you may be receiving for the academic year. You must be a registered student during the time of this award.

Step 2

Direct Deposit Reimbursement form - To complete this form go to: scroll down the page and click on Direct Deposit Reimbursement. Then click on Travel Reimbursements and complete the direct deposit form. All travel reimbursements are paid via direct deposit. (Only needs to be done once.)

Step 3

Take the completed form and receipts to Charlene Conner in Educ4042 (Please do not e-mail). At that time you will need to sit down with her to complete the electronic Travel Profile form (Only needs to be done once.). This form begins the process of reimbursing you for your expenses.

Attach to this application:

  • A copy of the paper abstract.
  • Original receipts for expenses (airline ticket stub or e-ticket showing amount charged and zero balance, hotel bill with registration in your name, conference/workshop registration receipt, taxi, car rental receipt etc.).
  • Letter of acceptance from paper chair, photocopy of the program listing you as presenter.

* Travel awards and amounts are limited to available funding and determined by the selections committee. The department will make every effort to fund all who apply, however, applying for a travel award does not guarantee you will receive an award. If you are receiving other funding from IU for this trip, please coordinate with our office and the other office to process the travel reimbursements together. Award cannot be used to pay for professional membership fees. Processing of any travel reimbursements must be completed within 60 Days from the return date of the trip, or the reimbursement will be taxed. After 120 days from the return date, the trip will not be eligible for any reimbursement.

Application

Counseling and Educational Psychology Trentham Travel Award

This award is to support expenses accrued by doctoral students in Counseling and Educational Psychology who travel to professional conferences to present academic papers.

Following are conditions for receiving the award:

1.Up to $400 may be awarded, per student, for presentation at a national conference (such as American Psychological Association, American Educational Research Association, or American Counseling Association).

2.Up to $200 may be awarded, per student, for presentation at a regional conference (such as Midwestern Educational Research Association or APA Division 17 Great Lakes Conference ).

3.Up to $100 may be awarded, per student, for presentation at a State conference (such as Indiana Association of School Psychologists).

4.For papers with multiple authors, the limits per paper are: $800 at a national conference, $400 at a regional conference, and $200 at a State conference.

5.A student may be awarded up to $400 per academic year, for up to three years.

6.To receive an award in a second year a student must be first author on a paper.

7.A third year award is contingent on being first author and having published in a refereed journal while an IU graduate student (in addition to making another presentation). A letter of final acceptance of the paper or the actual publication is required.

Special recognition goes to Landa Trentham, a doctoral inquiry graduate in 1972 and her husband, Gary, who started the fund and continue to contribute to it. Other sources of funding come from the department faculty.
