BIENVENUE! ¡BIENVENIDO!Welcome to French/Spanish class! I look forward to working with you this year as we continue to study the language and culture of French/Spanish speaking countries. Please read the following information carefully. It is an important part of what you need to know to have a successful year. Every year is a new year and a new beginning. Make it your best year ever!

  1. REQUIRED MATERIALS
  2. Covered textbook –please cover by 9/7/16
  3. Workbook (only French III H will have a workbook)
  4. 3 ring binder–not a folder
  5. Lined paper
  6. Pen/pencils
  7. 2 dry erase markers
  8. French students: French/English dictionary (at home)
  9. Spanish students: Spanish /English dictionary (at home)
  10. Homework planner-provided by Council Rock or your own
  11. All current notes and handouts
  12. 3 x 5 index cards (highly recommended)
  1. CLASSROOM POLICIES

Students must adhere to all school policies as listed in your student handbook.

  • Be in the classroom and ready to begin when the bell rings.
  • If you need to use the restrooms, ask permission in French/Spanish, sign out and return promptly. Please go at the beginning or end of class.
  • Have all required materials with you daily in class.
  • Treat each person in the classroom with respect.
  • Do not eat or chew gum in class. Water bottles are allowed.
  • Follow directions the first time they are given.
  • Cell phones are turned OFF and are in backpacks/purses. I will take any cell phone seen or heard. This is your 1st warning.
  • Cheating and plagiarism will not be tolerated. They will result in a 0 for the assignment, a phone call home, and a referral to administration. No credit will be given for any assignment completed by using an on-line translator.

III. LE DEVOIR –LA TAREA HOMEWORK

  • Homework is assigned regularly and is checked for completeness.
  • Occasionally homework is collected and graded. (STUDENTS WILL KNOW IN ADVANCE IF THE ASSIGNMENT WILL BE COLLECTED)
  • Homework is due at the beginning of the class. Late assignments are not accepted.

IV.EXTRA HELP

Regular attendance at clinic is encouraged. Don’t wait until the night before the test to come for help!Clinic days are Tuesday and Thursday in room 173 West after school, but I am also available before school and on most days that I do not have a scheduled meeting. Please tell me that you are planning on coming to clinic.

V. LES NOTES/LAS NOTAS- GRADES First and third Marking periods

A. Class participation (25%)

1.Your preparation for class (materials, homework, etc.)

2.Your efforts to speak French/Spanishevery day

3.Your adherence to class rules

4.Your cooperation with other students

5.Your attentiveness in class

6.Your willingness to volunteer

B. Quizzes, Tests and Projects (65%)

1.Expect 1-2 quizzes per week. There are NO pop quizzes.

2.Expect 1-2 tests per marking period. These are always

announced one week in advance.

  1. A quiz or test missed due to absence must be made up

within one week of your return to school.

4. Expect one assigned Special Project per marking period.

C. Homework 10%

D. Midterm and Final ExamsSecond and fourth marking periods

The Midterm constitutes 25% of the 2nd marking period grade.

The Final is cumulative and constitutes 25% of the 4th marking

period grade.

VI.ABSENCES

Make-up work is your responsibility. Please consult my website for assignments. Each student should also have contact informationof 2 classmates so that he or she can contact them for missed assignments. In the event you know you will be out, please get your assignments in advance. For extended absences, contact your guidance counselor or me for your assignments.

If you are absent the day of the quiz, you should be prepared to take the quiz the day you return. If you are absent more than one day, speak to me after class to arrange to make up lost work and quizzes.

VII.KEYS TO SUCCESS

  1. Study nightly, not just the night before the test or quiz.
  2. Do your homework- all of it! Have a study buddy to help you.
  3. Keep your binder organized. Organization is truly the key to success.
  4. Use your homework planner.
  5. Come for help at clinic.
  6. Make an effort! Speak French/Spanish! Mistakes are OK, but not making an effort is NOT!
  7. Join French/Spanish club!
